Good calculation exercise #4

I was reviewing one of the games I recently played and some of my analysis involves this position.

Can you calculate and visualize it all until the end of the test?

I think it's really really really really really really difficult.

Another ridiculously flashy line that only a computer or Ivanchuk would play.

I saw the basic idea and knew it must work since it's a puzzle, but missed Black's 25...Nf3! followed by 26.Ng5.

In a real game, I probably would have simply played 22.Rbc1 and been happy with the big edge White has. Here's a sample line: 21.Rc7 Qd8 22.Rbc1 Nd7 23.Ne6! Re6 24.Bd4! and White's got a great game due to the threat of Rxc8.

I thought it looked cool, so i posted it. I like sharing stuff that looks cool.

Your line looks quite good as well, I agree btw, but why take the fun out of it with such a comment as quoted......grumpy old man.

The reason I am lashing out at you is because you say the same stuff in other of my threads and I never address it.

@ frankiebones

yeah i mentioned that in the PGN, its quite good as well, but I did not bother continuing that line because the main line was of more interest to me.

Missed ...Nxf3+, but once you get there, it's not that hard to calculate the rest.

Still, I missed it.

Remellion

Strangely enough, in an actual game I probably would have played the mainline for all the wrong reasons. Calculated until 23. Qh6 and played the line, overlooked 23...Nxf3+; winged it until 25. Nf3, stunned by 25...Rf7; played 27. Rf1 believing white is worse and desperate, and playing 28. Nxh7 pessimistically rather than confidently.

Failed.

Missed Nf3 too. Not the black Nf3 but the white one !!

Went for Nxe6. Knight can't take because of ++, after Rxe6 comes Rxb7 +- (f8 is hanging) and after Bxe6, Rxg6 white wins back the piece and has got a very comfortable if not winning ending.

p.s. Really liked that Remellion comment. Sounds all too familiar to me, little Déjà vu.

One of the best calculation exercises I've ever seen.

I would have taken b7 rather than let him get that diagonal on the king, lacking the ability to see 30 moves down the path to victory.  What did you actually play in the game?

It's been a few years since I created the puzzle. Yeah, no shame in not seeing that far ahead. The intention was to show off some aesthetics of the position.

I don't remember what game I got the position from.
