The widespread mechanism of castling, introduced to chess in the 16th century, aims at achieving two goals with one move: to safeguard the king and to intergrate a rook into play.
 
Frequently one encounters some problems, though. Either the king does not feel entirely secure in its new residence, or the rook's fresh deployment is far from optimal.
 
In certain position,s revisions are called for. The king is required to relocate, thus allowing the rook to make a meaningful contribution.
