active king endgame

here's an endgame from recent game i played. i felt that my very active king was how i won (even though i was up material as well). my rook pretty much doesn't move until right at the end. all the damage is with my king. great lesson to beginners that the king is a very powerful piece in the endgame. all comments welcome.

I would only go as far as Kf1(if at all) with my king and then play Rc1 right away with the advancement of my queenside pawns to ensue. Since there is a 2 to 1 majority on the queenside with pawns in whites favor, you can create a passed pawn by force and the bishop will likely have to give itself up in a short amount of time to capture the passed pawn, thus making the endgame much more simplistic.

Just some thoughts...

the problem with making your kinng THAT active is that black might quickly create a passed pawn and your king will be out of square so your rook has no choice but to go passive and blockade...giving black excellent chances to draw (or even win...if he could sac a bishop to get 2 connected passers on the 6th, your rook would be simply helpess to prevent one from queening..a king however would easily blockade connected passers on the 6th). Kings block passed pawns better than rooks, you want to be attackign with your rook and holding back with your king. If black didnt have any potential passed pawns then its a different story.

yes i totally agree with you. there was a point that i could have lost if black had played correctly. i was lucky that he did what i thought he'd do.
