Analyzing my lost games in iPad

I have shredder, fritz, and Stockfish on my iPad. Yet I can't seem to anayze the games I've lost on chess.com. When I hit pgn it just says safari can't download file. Why? I am getting a MacBook pro soon. Will I also have trouble analyzing my lost games with it? I am told that there is a nice free chess game with it and of course I could buy shredder but not if I can't Analyze my games. I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas? Stalls

Here is a work around for downloading a PGN via your iPad, but I don't know of anything on iPad that can analyze it for you...

1. Download Goodreader on the iPad

2. Now Open Safari

3. Go to www.chess.com and locate the game, Click on the [GET PGN] button

4. It will open a new page with the URL of the PGN in the address bar and an icon on the screen with the file name

5. Touch the address bar with your finger twice and hold it till the magnifying circle appears, release your finger and the "cut, copy, paste" pop-up will appear.  Copy the URL

6. Click the iPad home button and open Goodreader.  Under Web Downloads in Goodreader is a button for [Enter URL], click it. Then paste the URL you copied from chess.com there

7. Goodreader will complete the download for you. You can view it in Text format and can copy and paste text from that screen.

But I don't think you can load a PGN into Shredder on the iPad.

If shredder won't analyze it, then you must not be able to anayze your games on the iPad. That is such a shame. I was thinking my little iPad could do just about anything. Stwils

Would fritz be able to do it. I have the iPhone version...

Question: If shredder will not analyze my gamesj on iPad how do I know shredder will analyze my games on the MacBook Pro? Worried ...stwils

Check the website and see.  I would presume the Shredder iPad app is different than the Macbook version but would certainly check before buying.  There's also something called Hiarcs for the Mac.

If you want to analyze PGN from anywhere on your iPad or iPhone, here are the two words you need to know:

tChess Pro

Once it's installed, your Mail program will be able to recognize pgn attachments and open them directly in tChess with one tap.  It also has a special window that allows you to cut/paste pgn right into the current game.

Unlike Shredder, it's also a 'universal' app, so one purchase fully supports both iDevices.  I think it's the best, although I do like Shredder too.

The Mac version of Shredder definitely does game analysis by the way.  I use Shredder 12 myself.

Also, when I said above that tChess Pro was the best app for working with PGN on the iPad/iPhone, I did not mean to imply that it has a feature (like Shredder for Mac does) to automatically play through a finished game and insert scores and variant lines.  At this point, I'm very confident there is no iPad/Phone app that does that.

But with tChess Pro, you can easily get the PGN into the app, turn on the analysis function, and *manually* step through the game to see where the turning points were, along with the AI's recommended lines.

thanks for head's up on 'tChess' !

I have been been using iA writer on my iPad to show my games during lessons (I am a part-time chess teacher to elementary school students, while I finish college).  I had been downloading the .pgn files, then converting them to UTF-16 .txt files on my macbook, and then emailing those to myself...

a huge waste of time....

Thanks again for the heads up...tChess is great!
