Best continuation?

I played this game yesterday and I felt like my next move was a blunder 10. Nxf6+...

What would have been the best continuation in this position?

A "blunder" is a move which makes a big mistake - doing something really bad or missing something really good.  So why do you think nxf6 was a blunder?  In fact, the game looks pretty equal after nxf6.

Bg5 and just 0-0 are the alterantives.  Both are better then nxf6, but dont win anything outright.

You made a move that wasnt best, but it wasnt a "blunder".

I disagree with ArtNJ, Nxf6 is actually a blunder.

Its not a blunder like giving a piece, but here, white is pawn down, has some compensations, and has to prove he has enough ones.

But trading and releasing the pressure is just going into en endgame a pawn down, almost lost.

So yes, Nxf6 is a blunder to me, giving almost the point.

I don't understand why u gambited d4 pawn, u have some initiative but not so much...

Nf3 instead of Ne2 was clearly better, going to centre, avoiding e5...

But e5 from black is dubious since it opens your Bc4's diagonal.

8...Nf6 would have been better for black too, because if u play in the same way : 8...Nf6 9.Nd5 Nxd5 10.Bxd5 Bb4+ is really annoying.

In order to attack f7, i prefer Qb3 to Qf3, black cannot block the f7 attack like in the game.

And instead of Nxf6, well, 0-0 followed by Rd1 or Bg5 offers some compensations, but its not awesome and really, simply 5.Nf3 and then Bxc4 gave a nice advantage to white, having what he wants in queen gambit and most openings : centre!

I think you should, also look back at your second move,

pawn to c4, and then what ? ( followup ..).

Regarding the question of f6,

it seems well guarded ..

The only advantage to being weaker is that I know I need to check my analysis with stockfish.  Despite being a vastly stronger player, you might take the lesson Poucin.  Stockfish says nxf6 is dead equal with about 3 minutes of thought (albeit on a phone).  Seeing as its an open position, that should be very reliable.

Maybe not a blunder....but a fluorescent inaccuracy. Think development here. Get your pieces out.

Go Sammy Go....Vroom Vroom !!
