OK.
1...Kd8
2. Rf8#
Yeah but black isn't gonna move to the eighth rank. That's suicide. Black will most likely move ...K-K3 (Ke6) wouldn't you say?
Playing computer, Black always moves Ke6 first. In the end, Black always ends up with a pawn advantage after exchanges.
I'd say unite your rooks probably on the f file. That should enable you to squeeze the king, trade the back rank rook and push the g pawn
Thanks. I tried uniting on f file as you suggested eric, but the end result was the same. Instead though, I untied them on row 7, then pushed the pawn and came out on top with exchanges. I then pushed the other pawns and King to corner to Mate. Thanks for uniting tip! Thanks silent, but what if he does not exb3? Instead 1a3, Rb2, 1a2, Ra2?
That's not a trivial win, because White's last queenside pawn in in great danger. I think the key is to push the g pawn as fast as possible.
The other problem is that an endgame R + 2 pawns on f and h vs R is theoretically drawn if the defending king can reach g7 in time.
Can you show please scott?
To be honest, I'm not certain I was right. I was just thinking of using the stepping technique, I think you may have enough time to reposition them without black being able to queen, once you are 2 rooks vs 1.
The golden rule when you are winning an endgame is to stop counterplay first. So the logical idea is to prevent the advance of the b-pawn. If you can also trade a pair of rooks that is also helpful.
I would try 1 ... Ke6 2. Rff7 a4 3. ba4 b3 4. Rb7 Rb7 5. Rb7 b2 (If 5... Ra4 6. Rb3 Rg4+ 7. Rg3) 6. Kg2 Kf5 7. h4 Kg4 8. Rb4+ Kh5 9. Kg3 Ra4 10. Rb2 Rh4 11. f4
I ended up winning this game because opponent resigned, but I felt unconfident with the board so I tried finishing against the computer. My unsurities were not misplaced. I can not seem to win. I am hoping that someone can give me strategies to win this game, and possibly show me how they achieved a victory from this position if you can. I am playing as white. It's black's move. Thanks
