Could I have won?

Here is a game I recently accepted a draw on. I have only accepted one draw in all my games. And I was just curious to other opinons on whether I would have eventually won.

One way to answer questions like this is to count up the material each side has.

White has 8 pawns (+8), a queen (+9), two rooks (+10), a knight (+3), and a bishop (+3) = 33 points. Black has 7 pawns (+7), two bishops (+6), and two knights (+6) = 19 points.

So yes, 33 vs 19, White has a big advantage and should win easily.

Besdes, 14.Bxg8 wins another piece! You really shouldn't accept a draw unless: (a) it's obvious to you how the game will be drawn or (b) you believe you are losing... but then you have to wonder why your opponent offered a draw. Look closer and see if perhaps he just made a blunder or something and doesn't want you to see it.

tsiminaah

are idiot?? youre totally owning him so why accept draw???unless you are the one who plays black

Rednaxela_19

Yea, really.  That game was totally owned by you.

angelor

i got at least 10 of those types of intringing games where youll just never know!!!!!!11

cnsmile

you're retarded, why did you accept a draw if winning was in your favor?

UrWorstKnightMare

Anytime you are up a queen and a rook, never accept a draw. It's kind of common sense.

Head_Hunter

This may sound harsh, but I believe that the only reason why you accepted a draw, a draw in which you obviously did not initiate, was because you are too lazy to think. I cannot believe that you accepted a draw offer. And shame on your opponent; he should have either resigned or kept playing until you put him in checkmate.

You have lost more than 150 games. From now on, you should never resign a lost position. You should allow your opponent to mate you if you're in a lost position, and study HOW they finish you off. Then perhaps you will know what to do when you are in a winning position. In any event, you're gonna have to think.

I know the hardest win is a won game(whether this was a joke quote or a real one), but that draw offer was a joke, accepting it was no different.

Pyke

I am sorry that people have to make rude comments belittling you since they see things you didn't.  The next time they ask someone a question about one of their games, maybe that person will laugh right in their face and tell them to open their eyes, how could they miss that...

Guys, please don't talk to people on this site like that.  likesforest did the right thing - telling him to look at what we consider the "obvious" - piece count.  He has a massive advantage, but why beat at him because he made the mistake of accepting a draw?

chessdad, I don't have to repeat what likesforest said, but putting other's words in a more constructive format - and I repeat, I am sorry that people can't keep their mouths quiet instead of making rude comments - when he offered you a draw, you should look at the position, and think for yourself, do I want a draw?

You had much more material than him, his king knight was hanging...his king was in a bad spot.  Maybe if you understood checkmate a bit better, you would have instantly declined.  My advice is to study basic checkmates, and also tactics.  Your rating tells me that you don't understand a lot of tactics yet, but there is plenty of room for improvement!  So get a basic book on checkmates and tactics, and it should help you quite a bit.  Spotting c7 and f7 being critical is simple, yet good.  And you did fine in fighting against his early checkmate threat with Qf6 and Bc5.

See guys, it is much easier to help lift someone up than to tear them down.  chessdad, if you like, I will challenge you to a set with both colors, and we can talk about ideas if you like.

One reason to accept a draw is if you are out of vacation time and won't be able to make your moves on time...

DGMOON

I agree with Bird above.  Don't pay attention to those rude people who have commented here, maybe the haters live in a dark place metally and physically.  You gotta feel sorry for them.
