Then they're idiots.
Did this guy take me seriously?

probably fooling around with time odds or just having a super bad time... it's unrated though so who knows maybe they were doing it blindfolded...
This and he's using an USB steering wheel to enter his moves. Also it was his step cousin playing not him.
Really? I think I'll disregard this "theory" because I have the distinct impression I'm being trolled. And no, I don't think he was playing blindfolded, or playing by phone, or playing on three chess sites at once or any other joking theories you have.
well I was serious about the blindfold...

Haha, typical Hikaru. Sounds like he wishes non-players watching his stream counted for more than having actual accomplishments in chess... accomplishments like Carlsen has.

I know. But he was messing around, so I messed around too.

ha I can probably do blindfold bullet and still beat a 1000 a couple times... just move fast, premove, and wait for it to end...
maybe it is blindfold, ever thought of asking them?
I happen to know a 1000 bullet. Mind if I ask him if he wants to participate in this experiment?
I tried a bullet experiment (1|0) with a new account. I was only allowed to move knights and pawns for the first 30 moves (recaptures and any legal move to get out of check was allowed).
I was able to stay above 1500... so yeah, shuffling around blindfolded to stay above 1000 shouldn't be hard.
May I see a couple of those games?
I actually did it on this account. I was going to do 100 games, but after 30 or so I realized I'd be pretty hard stuck at 1500s so I stopped.
So just look at the first bullet games I played on this account. You can tell when I started playing for real because I went on a 50 game winning streak

It's even harder than I thought!

You were pretty close though!

Thanks! I know that guy took me seriously, lol.

My guess is that might not be the same player, might be one of the student playing against. You never know. Probably check the game he won against stronger players.

From all the games I've seen from that guy, five people might have played on his account for all I know.

in a rated game that should be against TOS.
Which is probably why he plays so much unrated.

No, it's just because your opponent played 41655 bullet games to get to that rating. Generally the more games you play the higher your peak rating will be.

makes sense lol But I still think it should be against TOS. I mean the whole reason I'm against speedruns is not necessarily because of rating points, but because of duping people out of competitive matches which is what they are signing up for. And you can't blame people for being angry about it.
It is rare for a person to play against multiple speedrunners, so I don't think streamers are duping many people out of competitive matches. It really depends on how you look at it. Unrated is where you go to play without the risk of losing rating points. If someone wants to let his little brother play and you are against that, then realize that he wouldn't get away with it in rated, and you should probably stay there for a consistent challenge. Plus, since so few people play unrated, you will get a vast rating variation.

Because its not just the streamers that are playing on multiple accounts. They are leading by example.
Everyone else knows they can't do it without permission, so if they open another account, then either they don't know the rules, or they are dishonest. If the player I played was manipulating his rating, then he belongs to the second category.

Don't underestimate yourself , you must have played better in all games . PS : he can be be sleepy too.

Thank you for your confidence! But his game history is so weird that this is probably a case of rating manipulation. Of course, he plays mostly unrated bullet, which makes things very confusing.
The mere fact that online ratings can be so easily manipulated should tell everybody that otb real tournament ratings are much more significant. So when people keep posting threads asking about comparing online ratings to otb, just stop. Everybody is UNRATED unless they play in real tournaments otb.
I agree. And also we should point out that streamers online who do speedruns and play on multiple accounts wondering why online chess is not as respected as OTB tournament play should really reflect on themselves.
No one wonders this. OTB play is always more respected.
