Endgame Challenges

I was at my local chess club in Asheville, NC on wednesday and played this game. My opponent has been playing for about 75 years so he has an edge on me but I was hoping for some help with the analasys.

So there it is. Also to note this is kind of a "rough" chess club, lots of noise, swearing, smoking, which although may be nice for training, is more frustrating when you want to play a serious game. As a result, we were making moves a little quicker than usual since it was getting out of hand in there.
So tips with endgames, specifically how to handle rooks would be great. If you know of any good books or training tools for rook endgames I would appreciate the suggestions.
Thanks,
Bryan
Also, if you know how to change the paragraph from centered to left aligned after inserting a game that would be great. I don't see any button for it.

i see many small things..........your opponent didnt play so good imo. And when given an advantage gave it away many times! the game was there for the takin for both sides at many stages in the game.

your opening was fine imo!

move 7. i think i prefer Ne4 best although i think Ne8 would be perfectly fine! I havent been in this position before but both of thos moves allow your night to get into other good squares and et back into action quick. Ng5 as you played got you into trouble and opened up your kingside which was bad and t hen your opponent didnt use this advantage but instead let you trade pieces which was good for you.

In your continuation for move 7 i think Pd5 is much stronger than Pd6!

Move 16 i think Nc6 is much better than the one you played. You bring your knight out of the game over to the kingside which is very bad. On c6 he is quite active and is easily defendable.

17 Ng7 or Ne7 are much better than the Nh4 which pretty much decomissions your knight if your opponent plays right!

21. Nc6 might have been better. (Maybe not so sure what i would do here) but 21.Nc6 BxN 22. PxP RxP 23. Bb7 winning the exchange.

Move 25. depending on what you want here (draw, win)

If you are happy with a draw simply NxN and then Kf7 is quite sufficient to hold a draw here most likely. All Nd3 did for you was get you into trouble and alot of hassle for nothing!

Move 33. Simply to prevent him winning the pawns Rf7 is a must and gives best chances of winning! The continuation line in blue you show here is in fact better than the one you played in the game but Rf7 is def the best way to go imo there.

You seem to be checking him consistently, but in fact the checks are doing nothing for you except getting you into trouble! Remember there is no point in giving a check unless it actually does something good for you and your position.!

Move 39. I dont think RxP is good as opponent has Ra4 pinning knight and creating complications. I think Nf6 would have been good and much better for you here.

Move 53. Tempos (moves) are vital here! ONe mistep can lose any endgame! Kg4 is a must here to allow the pawn push! attacking the rook  is a waste of tempo as opponent will just move away and then you have to play Kg4 anyways as it is your only plan in this position.

GG al the same. hope you atleast learnt something from it!
