So you've watched many games and visited many sites in a futile attempt to understand why GMs move the way they do, but you think we can explain it to you here on the forums?  On behalf of all the forum regulars, may I extend a warm thank you for your belief in our powers.  Alas, I believe your faith is misplaced.  Still, I'm sure someone will have a go at it. Laughing

Oh what the heck.  It's not like I haven't posted questionable ideas before. I was watching one of GM Maurice Ashley's videos this morning and he was talking about how GMs usually like to start their tournaments slowly with a nice positional game, squeezing their opponents until they can win a pawn and ram home the advantage in an endgame.  But because of the big dollar prize money in this tournament, the Gms came out fighting.  Normally GMs follow the same principles that we do, but they also have the ability to toss aside convention and brilliantly improvise strategy on the spot.  What looks like a chaotic mess to us has a clear plan behind it; or maybe sometimes just a gut feeling that there is something in the position that can be exploited.  Mere mortals can only dream of such mastery.  So learn to follow the principles of chess.  It's even what most GMs do most of the time.  The difference of course is that they know when to break the rules.

I can help you: She played 8... h6 to prevent Bxh7 in case the Nf6 moves. In addition, she protects the g5 square to avoid any Bg5 pins. Hope that helped.
