Halloween Gambit

I just wanted to post this game, its Halloween in two days, so I thought I would try this opening.

It was a pretty easy game. Maybe I need to raise the difficulty on the computer. It may be more fun for me that way. Maybe I'll also play some real people.

Happy Halloween with a Halloween Gambit!

Level one plays extremely poorly. Truth be told, when I first started playing chess, I always struggled with beating a level 1 computer here. It always made me mad that I couldn't beat the simplest setting. After a lot of help from friends in real life, as well as friends on this forum, I'm able to now beat a level 5 on occasion. I've come a long way, and I'm still learning a lot.

Anyway, I just thought it would be fun to post A Halloween Gambit during the Halloween season.

24. rxd6 is a good missed tactic to try to absorb.

While the computer made mistakes, the halloween gambit is certainly an opening to be afraid of.

Two things. First off, you guys are right. This is a scary opening. Second off, it is true that the computer made mistakes. I actually tried upping the level of the computer, and did the same opening. I utterly lost. It is a scary opening!

Jnicholes I will play Halloween gambit if you want a Halloween gambit only match

@hedgehoglover02,  Sure. I'll be more than happy to play you. Send me a game request whenever you want to. I'm just looking for my laptop right now, I can't seem to find it. Using my phone to play a game is rather difficult.

Since there is not any known direct refutation of the gambit, Black can be satisfied with a moderate, very stable positional advantage:

Black's advantage is not big, but white's position is certainly not very pleasant, due to that excellent Black bishop at e5 and the backward e4 pawn. And in any case, such a position wasn't certainly what white had in mind when opting for this gambit!

SHEESH....if thats level 3.  How poorly does level 1 play???

The levels are structured to be far too easily defeatable. Additionally, the wide margin between the Level 9 and Level 10 playing quality should probably be modified, as chess.com users aren't really getting much thrill out of having a massive jump discontinuity.

I would speculate that the average 1100 rated player could decimate level 8 at ease.

Not on a desktop computer with 4 cue at 3.6 giga hertz and 8 gigs of ram;level 1 to 5 are crap but level 6 is at least 1400 elo and level 7 1600 elo....level 8 is a monster..probably 1800 elo....

Well, on the PC, the Level 8 computer does not seem to play like a 1800 rated player; he has some tactical understanding and a decent opening repertoire, but can make inaccuracies.
