Hey everyone! I'm a Master willing to help analyze players' games for free. Is anyone interested?
Hello Sir,
I had recently played a game and I had lost. I had blundered in that game, but that is not what I want to ask about. The kind of attack my opponent seemed to be using was new and made me feel completely out of place, as his attack was something i didn't anticipate. I don't know why, I never get any creative thoughts or attack plan when I play the game. I just feel stagnant... and unable to move forward without any plan... most of the times. And in this game, I lost confidence because my opponent's attack seemed new to me. A bit about me: I am weak player, and chess is not my carrier. I just like the game very much. Please do look into this game. Thanks a lot!
This following game was a 30 min game I had played. I played white:
My thoughts about this game: After move 17, I made the significant blunder of leaving the h3 pawn hanging, after a desperate attempt to try and kick the knight away. Now I believe that the entire position would have been manageable, if I were to keep playing the correct moves. But for some reason, the clustered pawns made me feel too pressured. I never really expected someone to decide on launching such an attack along the kings side, by literally throwing off their king side's pawn structure. And all the moves he had done before that were preparing for his advancement. For example, his h6 move in move 6 really didn't make sense to me. I thought he was preparing to castle along the queens side, and anyway try and advance the pawns forward. But I really don't know how should I defend such an advancement.
There were times when I had won players rated more than me; but they are very rare (this is another game I played white):
I want you to see this one too, to understand how I usually play. I make a lot of blunders in my games, even if they are not blitz.
In this game, for a long time, I had been playing moves that weren't driven towards any plan. My only objective was to make my pieces mobile, and defend them very well. The position evolved gradually and at move 14, I had blundered losing a pawn. But from that point I tried to play as carefully as possible. But at move 21, i suddenly saw the opportunity of breaking the opponent's pawn structure, along A and B file, and start pushing both pawns forward. I think my opponent didn't make any accurate moves, and he was not able to defend himself well, and I eventually won.
When I play chess, it is always like this: I keep developing my pieces initially, and at one point, I completely lose any sense of any plan. My mind just goes blank. I have recently coped with that feeling by trying to make moves that are less vulnerable, rather than the ones that may guarantee my victory over time. What I really want to understand is, how to play like the black player in the first game I had shown in this comment. He seems to know what will happen in the future, and he seems to prepare for it well in advance. I think, even if I hadn't blundered in the first game, at move 18. g3, I would have lost anyways. Because, all his pieces were attacking me; all I had to do was try and defend my pieces, and every one of them are gradually going to go out of place, leading me to a situation which I cannot defend. In the first game (the one I lost) beyond the move 17 I don't know what to do. I think I could have tried 18. exf5 Bxf5 trying to release the pressure. Maybe opening the f file could have given better, though it creates a dangerous looking bishop to eyeing at my e3 pawn. The d5 and e5 pawns look like they may advance forward in the future. Maybe if white could play d4 and exd4 will not be possible at that movement as exd4 and Nfxd4 could have been better for me. But he might play e4 and my Knight at f3 would be kicked to either e1, d2 or h2. moving the Knight to H2 seems to be a nice option as it could aid in the defense along the king side, all the while not cluttering the position in the E or D files, as the queen, the bishops and the other knight (at b3) all depend on the available space there, to move around or defend. I think in this position, after the moves 18. exf5 Bxf5 19. d4 e4 20. Nh2 black may have to think of a different strategy to attack. Maybe rook g8 could aid the attack in the future. While writing this comment, I just felt that the opponent may not have done the move 19... e4. Because, it seems solid for white and bad for him (who is attacking). Maybe a move like Rg8 could be possible. I don't really know. That could be a better possibility. Or he may have the thoughts of repositioning his Knight, which is at d7 and doing almost nothing, by bringing it to the e4 square, which seems well defended for black after the move 19 in the variation I am talking about. The e4 square stays well defended for black. so it looks like a good place for a knight. Even if it was attacked by a minor piece, it would at least require 2 minor pieces to kick out both the knight and the bishop from their dangerous squares. Anyway, I think this variation: 18. exf5 Bxf5 19. d4 e4 20. Nh2 Ng6 21. Bg4 Bxg4 22. Nxg4 is better for white. After further looking into this, I think the game play could have been something like this: 18. exf5 Bxf5 19. d4 g4 20. hxg4 Bxg4 21. Bxf4 exf4 22. Nh2 Be6. I am not really sure if this has any flaws in them. Please do tell me if you find flaws.
So my question is, how do you effectively plan for a future advantage. I cannot get my mind to think about how the position could evolve into after a while. I really wish it was possible.
Thanking you,
K Sreram
