How did I lose this game?
move 7....d6 looks a lot better than f6, but you had lots of opportunities to win. It seems you had no plan. Always play to a plan. In this case you should have realised you were winning after Nxa1 on move 5. A simple plan is - when ahead swap off material so your advantage becomes more significant. You did not swap Qs when you could have etc. etc. You did try to develop, but you could have avoided the checks by castling or even later by doubling up rooks. Apart from careless wandering with your King toward the end - No plan.

Thanks for the comments. It just seemed that after move 18, my hand was being forced. However, I do agree that I did not have a distinct plan; I am not really that advanced yet; just started playing again after a 20 year hiatus. I just need to concentrate more on deleberate moves.
Thanks,
T
Believe it or not, I don't think the losing move actually came until 36 ... Kxg2?? If you had played 36 ... Kg1, white has nothing better than a draw by perpetual check. White can't afford a non-checking move, since your bishop moving to f3, g4, or h5 would be checkmate.
Also, I agree with you that around 18 ... Rd8 things started to go bad. Rd8 does nothing to address your major problem: king safety. You are winning at that point, and Rd8 simply does nothing except for hope that your opponent misses the obvious mate in 1. Playing instead 18 ... 0-0 would have protected your king and defended your rook all at the same time. Such a multi-purpose move should be at the top of the list for consideration. 18 ... Rd8?, as you found out, allows his queen to hassle you with checks.

thank you all for the comments and suggestions. I have to renenber castling and being more forcefull with my qween once I am ahead. Thanks for the pointers!

The posted game, I lost through resignation. I had the game pretty much won. However, my opponant completely swept me and kept me in check for 1/2 the game and finally check mated position. Can you please tell me at what point I lost this game so that I never go through the same humiliation again?
Thanks allot in advance.

The player against me seemed to be much higher rated then listed. Was I just being completely retarded or did he do an amazing job of fending me off. I guess I feel like I started lossing the game at move 18. Considering I did not have another non-checked move till he/she check mated me.
