How to Annotate games

I'm using Scid when I try to annotate my games, but I found it to be very annoying when it adds so many variations whose lines are too long. How do I try to lessen these variations, what is the proper way of annotating games?

The proper way of annotating games is adding the commentary you find proper to the game record.

tl;dr: if you have nothing to say about a game, don't bother annotating it.

I have no problems of adding comments, my problem is about adding variations to it.

Unless those variations are meant to present or clarify some thought or opinion of yours (in which case they would be comments), you needn't add them to the annotation.
