Hi. I played 99% of my move randomly. How to play a piece if there are thousands of choices? If i win then it was time win.

firs thing is: do u even wanna improve or are u trolling peoples time?

cos I told u, the one way to get better a t chess, a complex game, is to study chess like a madman meaning HARD WORK, laziness is not for chess players. not the ones that improve.

study or cry

U r arrogant. Just don't comment.

I studied then I comment here.

Vertwitch

he only plays , he is not studying...guess what? chess needs study, like or not.

study or lose forever.

Vertwitch

w/e

the person has to study and that 's all it takes.

the rest is only "nothing"

He played more than a thousand games ,  no man should question his drive or his ambition.  He's literally doing the time to do the climb.

actually u dont get any better by only 'Moving pieces randomly" lol ,

like...

Vertwitch

like STUDY OR LOSE.

Vertwitch

what are u saying?

the dude is not studying and he still wants progress??

yeah good luck xd but we know how that will end up xd

He's doing nothing but trying to learn and improve himself.  You should take some cues or at the very least try to help.  Lend your plow to his field.  You seem to have way too much time on your hands.

He has to study, study and study some more.

and u know what?

study some more.  more chess study.

I said i play randomly because there r thousands of move and i don't see a strategy. I have 4-5 apps whose name I don't remember but they were tactics . I generally play with computer at level 2 or 3.

If I didn't like chess then i was not playing that much game and devote my time here.

I read a book bobby Fisher teaches chess.

But i think app is better so I practice on app. And yes I play randomly most of the time because I don't have a plan.

I am a casual chess player who wants to get 1000 rating here.

Vertwitch

ok "casual chess player" 1) u have to study and stop being casual, and 2) guess what: there is not a plan in chess, it is all crazy tactics, ok?  groundbreaking eh there are not plans in chess, just play tactic games, try to find tactics here and there, and u will win. chess is99% tactics, begin with that. the 1% left is for Titled players xd  so yeah no more plans, ok? just play tactically.

laziness is to chess what fear is to love

1.Pick an a couple of openings to study (popular are the Spanish for white and the Sicilian for black) and then go over to chessgames.com and play over a whole bunch of them, trying to guess the next move that the masters made.

2. Do a PILE of tactics problems, both here and on chesstempo.com. Take your time with them--no penalty on chesstempo for moving slowly. If you get it wrong, play back the solution until you understand it.

3. Whether playing a real person or playing a computer, give yourself plenty of TIME. You're not good yet, and so far have a weak board vision. With every single move you make, do something that either makes a threat, improves your position, or defends against a threat.

4.  Get a few basic books and really STUDY them. "Logical Chess, Move by Move," and "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess" are good places to start.

5. As for bullet and blitz, Nakamura is terrific at them. But he's in the top 5 in the world. He didn't get there by playing bullet.

torrubirubi

Your are playing blitz most of the time, right?

I would never try to improve in chess only playing blitz, this will take too long.  When you went to school to learn to write and read, your teacher didn't speed up everything, right? You learned very slowly, and now you are probably able to write and read rather fast.

The same with chess. If you play longer games you will still make a lot of mistakes, but less than before (I hope) and you will learn more from these mistakes.

I suggest you following things to get some hundred points stronger in the next 2 or 3 months.

1. The most important thing I told you already: play slower games. You can even play Daily Chess, something like 3 days per move, and play something like 4 games, two with black and two with white.

2. Use a database in Daily Chess to play good moves in the opening. In Daily Chess you are allowed to use books and databases (no engines, of course). To get a feeling for the opening you just play mainlines following a database (like for example chessgames.com, or using the explorer in chess.com, or something similar). With the time you will have an idea how to go through the opening and reach a playable middlegame.

3. You can also use a book to learn a repertoire. In Chessable you will find a lot of good books, some for free, use them. The opening is not a priority in your level, but it is not a bad ideal to start learning a basic repertoire right now, this will be very useful for your chess career.

4. Most part of you training time you should invest doing tactics. The purpose of tactics is not only to learn how to checkmate or to win material (although this is very important, of course), but you will also learn with the time how to prevent your opponents to use tactics against you. A great book on tactics is "1001 Tactics for Beginners", available in Chessable. You have to pay for it, but it is not expensive. In Chessable you will find a lot of books on tactics for free. Use them. The reason why I often mention Chessable in my posts is that you will use spaced repetition there (google it). This will speed up your learning.

5. Here the most important thing: Analyse your games, better together with a friend, first without using an engine. Try to figure out where you went wrong and what you could have been done better. After you finished the game you still can go through the game again using an engine and check if you was right or not. Doing this job very seriously would be even enough to improve, you could skip all the training with tactics or openings (but better to train tactics and a basic repertoire separately too speed up the learning process).

That's it. If you reach something like 1500 in Daily and rapid you can begin to play 30 minutes game if you wish. And if you are 1700 or 1800 in Daily you can start playing some 10 minutes-games or even 5 minutes, just for fun, but the main thing is the slower games, 30 minutes at least.

Good luck!

Okay, so if you want to play in an OTB tournament, you gotta study. There is legit no way you can't study and play in an OTB tournament and expect wins. I mean, you might, but I learned it the hard way.

But you're a casual chess player, and that's fine. No one can judge you for that.

I would suggest:

-Reading about openings.

-Tactics, tactics, tactics!

-Work on board vision.

With this, you can become 1000 in no time!

As someone who used to be at a 500 rating when first starting out, I can say that tactics aren’t your main issue here; people at this rating level typically need to focus on defending their pieces and making sure they’re not dropping/blundering them away. Before every move, make sure all your pieces are well-defended before you try to attack your opponent with tactics. This helped me move from a 500 to 1000 rating the fastest.
Pikelemi

You didn't play1000 games. You have played 62 games in three different time controls.

quentle

Cut out obvious blunders. Then cut out bad mistakes. Then cut out ordinary mistakes. Then cut out little mistakes.

Your rating will soar.

torrubirubi

I think the OP is not around!

As a person who was in the 1500 USCF range for more than 3 months (which is pretty long for me), this isn't as easy as it seems, @quentle . That's why you need tactics and openings. happy.png
