You might want to try SCID vs. Mac, the Mac version of SCID vs. PC, which is a fork of SCID that fixes a number of bugs and usability issues. It's not perfect, but it's free. I've been using it for some time now and I'm mostly happy with it. You can get it here:

It comes with an number of engines preinstalled, but you can hook it up to any engine you like. Stockfish (as mentioned in Retrodanny's post) is pretty good.
Like chessbase or something similar?
