what is going on????

(btw, I put it under game analysis, but it's not a real game)

But somehow, Lichess understands what's going on:

I know this is a very dumb position to analyze, but let's analyze this anyways.

does that matter? It would be checkmate either way. (Just note the ones out the outside are bishops, or else the position would be impossible)

Engines aren't designed for positions like that

Yeah, in fact, when I try to enter positions with a crazy amount of pieces into the analysis board like that, it just straight up doesn't analyze it. Don't know how you got it to do that at all, maybe that was from a different position and the engine didn't reset.

blueemu

Congratulations, you broke Stockfish.

It's not chess. And you analyze it with a chess engine?

that's the number of pieces on your board?  you must be playing the game differently from the rest of us.

Sarthakk106YT

Maybe Stockfish Evaluations are like ChatGPT playing chess and will spawn a piece out of nowhere to save the game for white

no, it's standard chess, just a custom position. It's not a possible one though, because it's not physically possible to have more than 8 pawns on the chessboard (or more than 10 bishops)

fine: they're pawns, except for the ones on the 1st rank, 8th rank, a file and h file

it's a completely symmetrical position

Maybe stockfish can’t analyze because of those goofy ahh pieces
