Longest individual notation?
Sorry, one last one, thank you skibdiJosef:
1000. (a7)xb8(N)=(N)?? [%clk 0:00:01] (c7)xd8(N)=(N)#?? [%clk 0:00:01] 0.5-0.5
Even though we remove the double check, we actually increase it by 6 digits, making it 78 characters including spaces and periods when we include the match results.
no sane human is gonna write that on the scoresheet

Exactly. Think in the normal way.
en passant is not officially notated as e.p. So it doesn’t count.
You can play Qa6xa4+ in this position, because there are two Queens on both the a file and the 6th rank which can take the Knight, so you must specify which one is taking.
If you consider the type of moves to be words within the notation (check, checkmate, promotes, takes, etc.) and the piece making the moves, I assume the longest notation would be a pawn taking a piece and promoting to a Bishop delivering checkmate.
Here we have cxb4=B#, which is...
Pawn takes B4, promotes to Bishop, Checkmate.
44 Characters.
P.S. cxb4=B# is also by itself 7 characters so it is already relatively large.
That’s a fun topic! The longest I’ve seen is something like exd8=Q#, especially when a pawn captures, promotes, and gives mate all in one. It’s wild how much can happen in a single move — almost like squeezing a full plot twist into one line. Kind of reminds me of those branching story games like Summertime Saga Mod APK(https://thesummertimesagaapk.com/), where one small decision can trigger a whole chain of events. Chess notation and story-driven games both pack a surprising amount of depth into very compact formats.
