exd8=Q# is one character longer

talliholic

this is the largest possible notation:

1. Qh4xe1#          7 letters/symbols/numbers

LegoChessMastery

The same length as the other moves but still is long

What is a Msh? I can't seem to find a definition or anything anywhere.

I've read over the FIDE chess notation rules, and with some liberties taken I think we can do
(=) e5xd5++ e.p. where white offers a draw, which is declined by black. White then takes a pawn with en passant, delivering checkmate. One specific detail is that white's capturing pawn has another pawn behind it that could also take the white pawn, meaning we need to specify the capturing pawn's rank.

Qgxe2# is also 6

I suppose with analysis, en passant, and double-check annotation it could be something like
69. exd3 e.p.++!!N+-
exd3, en-passant, double-check, brilliant move, Novelty, White is winning

Though I'm not sure if en passant could ever be a double check

Combining this with other notation I've seen in this forum, we could have
69. (=) exd3 e.p.++!!N+- 1/2-1/2

7 ... longest famous annotated move in the Albin Counter-Gambit

But on my laptop it reads fxg1=N but not fxg1=N+

No but you would write draw offer (do)

Longest chess notation for a turn on chess.com? (2 moves inc. Move number and outcome)
1044. cxd8=Q+!! =/∞ Qb6xd8?? =/∞ 1/2-1/2
Note: You could add (=) twice to make it even longer!

Okay, so I tested the en passant theory that some people were debating about four years ago, I'm surprised no one just went to the analysis board and tested it. No, you do not cite the en passant, you just site the capture. For example, if white's E5 pawn captures black's F5 pawn, the notation would be exf6. It's interesting though that it cites the square that the pawn reached after en passant, rather than the square of the pawn that was captured.

Anyway, here's the deal: the move has to be a capture and has to be either a check or a checkmate. It also has to be a promotion. There are two characters for the position (i.e e5) and one character for the piece that is capturing. There is one character for the check or mate, one character for the capture, and two characters for the promotion. In total, that gives us seven maximum characters.

For example: fxg8=Q#.

So, the longest individual notation would be seven characters. Some variation of a pawn promoting with a capture and delivering a check or mate.

As a side note, while 0-0-0# sounds promising, it's only six characters.

I did say no commentary (! or ?), but if I was playing that game, I could propose fxe8=Q#?? or even fxe8=Q#???!?!

i like how promotion mate is a blunder lmao

..dxNe8=N+!!
