Hello, is it me or did chess.com just banned out the opportunity to analyze my games myself? Hope this is temporary? Or an attempt to gain more paying members…

You should be able to use the self analysis option still.

I don’t see the option after the game starting today either. Go to Learn -> Analysis -> Game Archive… then pick the game you want for self analysis. Still works there.

I am having the exact same problem. But the suggestion given by Mike0A works. Thanks!

Why can’t we just click the self analysis button post game? So many additional clicks. Stupid

Chess.com has a strong financial incentive to make users believe that Analysis doesn't exist. Most people think that Game Review is the only available tool, and it's obviously a paying feature.

Thx to Mike0A!! Ofcourse it would be better with a onebutton push, but’s free…😊

Hello! The Self Analysis option, as Martin mentioned, is still available to all members. That said, recently a design change has been implemented, and some players are visualizing a different interface, which now has two buttons (one for Game Review, and one of Self Analysis) at the endgame screen, or when visiting a game from the archive.

  • For those visualizing such change, the Self Analysis button is now located on the top right corner of the screen.

you can only use it once per day--- at least that was happening to me --then after that -- nope you must pay i guess -- once is enough for now but i d=should could use more often -- just reviewing your games each time is not enough i need instruction on each move that i blundered mistake etc -- thats for paying members which does make sense -- nothing is free in life

As it was explained over and over again, this is not true. Analysis was always unlimited and free. And still is.

Get the reasons why they have removed the post instant button. Largely as was pointed out it potentially drives traffic to paid membership.

I have paid but currently as a free member (cost of living etc and lost my job). I do click on the one full analysis just for fun. In truth it does not teach you much and really struggles, often calling game winning sacs mistakes, misses, blunders etc.

Much prefer self analysis as it lets you look at the game in a whole different perspective and see your options, mistakes, misses much more clearly. Also the %bar makes it a good measure to see how the computer, or a much stronger player would take an alternative route to those of my level.

Hope it comes back to a one button fix. My argument would be that it does not discourage those who want the computer analysis feature and so really just makes it a slow process, and maybe even discourages those who have never used self analysis feature from finding out why it is worth paying the fee to improve your game.

Self analysis is free for as many times as you wish. Click on your game and then below the game review button on the right side you should see icons next to the move arrows. The icon (Magnifying glass)which looks like a circle with a tiny stick and two black dots in it, is the self analysis location. With only one click on that, and you are in self analysis.

Also, "Self Analysis" is a pretty dumb name for it. The engine is doing the analysis, not you. All you lose is the (often nonsensical) comments of chess.com's own script.

You can turn off the engine. You also can use the tool to try different lines by yourself to see how the positions evaluate. It's not a bad name for the feature since the only automated part is the engine evaluation and you move through positions

There's still an icon that leads directly to analysis

No, Chess.com has not banned self-analysis of games. While some users have reported changes in the interface or limited daily access to the self-analysis feature, it is still available. Chess.com says the self-analysis option is accessible to all members. According to Chess.com, users can access it through the Learn > Analysis > Game Archive section. The change in how it's accessed may be a design update or a restriction to one free analysis per day, but it's not a ban on self-analysis.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Self-Analysis is still available:

Chess.com still provides the tools for users to analyze their games independently.

Interface changes:

Some users have noticed the self-analysis button is now accessed through a different part of the site (Learn > Analysis).

Limited access:

Some players are reporting a limit of one free self-analysis per day.

No ban:

There is no ban on self-analysis, just a potential change in how it's accessed or a limitation on free use.
