It wasn't a sound move. Tactics aren't all about making the best move, they are often about making the most of your opponents' blunders, as in this case.

Maybe I'm missing something but it just looks a bit silly to me, then again, the problem is only rated 1100 and 1100 players do drop pieces. Try a harder problem would be my advice.
