I do not believe that this is the case, perhaps you are trying to make the underlying point that chess is artistic, and this is a valid point indeed. However, someone earlier commented that anything may be perceived artistically, so it means little to say that chess is artistic.
If you ask me, CHESS IS WAR
! YEEAAAAARRGHHH

No for me. I've heard it before, but I just don't see art this way. Art is made with a different purpose than a game of chess is played with. The carving of chess sets is most certainly art, but not chess itself-the players aren't doing it to create something artistic.
Yes, because Chess is a battle of ideas. Like Josh Waitzkin said in his book "The Art of Learning", Chess is a game that expresses you.
yes...because you told me that art is needed to make a better defense using your pieces instead of pencil...

I love chess, but If we shall call chess art, i think many(or all) other "sports" or activities should be allowed to call themself art.

I agree with this. If chess isn't an art, then how can one have a "style"? There are attackers, positional players, counter attackers, and brilliant endgame players. If chess has no art, than how can it have style?

oh yeah.
