Three pieces for a queen? Was it worth it?

I recently played a game in which I saced three pieces for a queen. In the end I won the game, but that was because of a, what one could call, blunder. So please, by what you see, do you think it was worth it? I know the three piece amount to more points, but I hear it can be ok to do during midgame strategy. Any other analysis is welcome.

Nope.

TheEraofGoodFeelings

Please, if you give an answer, can you explain why you gave it?

Kupov

A bishop, a knight and a rook together outweigh a single queen.

Kupov

Better yet, have the engine play against itself.

Thank you both for your replies. They really help me harden my own analysis! I thought it was a mistake right after I was finished executing it. Perhaps I'll try downloading a free game analyzer for games like these! Thanks again.

After black takes the rook, he will have a bishop developed, so he can then castle, gaining tempo and protecting his king - which nullifies any advantage the queen would give over the minor pieces. So black will be ahead in development, tempo, and point value. No, I don't think this is a fair trade.

On an related note, Rybka evaluates this position as -1.72, so black has slightly less advantage than the two 'points' the piece exchange was worth, but is still leading considerably.

Also not a good idea because after 7...Bc5 I really don't see any defense for white.
