Understanding "Best" moves - Analysis!

I'm stumped!

Does anyone have any insight to this analysis. I must be missing something because if I moved Qd3 wouldn't King just take and then I would be down Material and minimal advantage to position? I ended up getting mate later on but didn't see this move working unless I did it when King was stuck on d1.

Appreciate the feedback!

Not a great chess player, but I’m pretty sure the queen is protected by the pawn and it would push the king back and trap it. Then you would probably checkmate later with the queen and some other piece, like the pawn and the queen or the rook and queen.

Yes, before you player cxb3+, the pawn on c4 protected the queen on d3. That’s why Qd3+ works

OP—part of game analysis is reviewing your thought process and decision making.  If you go back to the position before this one, what caused you to overlook Qd3 (M2).  What was your strategy/plan of attack?  How does cxb3 further that plan?  Don’t forget to consider all possible checks.

Keep up the good work!

BTW..IFF also.  Love R.E.M.

Ilampozhil25…thank you for the post.

OP—in reviewing the game, you took advantage of the position with good attack; however, at move 15, you appear to let up on the attack.  Although a6 moves the N back, the N was not the immediate priority.  Even with a potential fork of both rooks, the threat was minimal considering your other available moves.  Qd3 was the most powerful move, threatening Qb3# or QxNf3+ If Nc3 followed by QxRh1.  Qd3 also keeps the DSB & QR blocked in, so White is effectively playing without 8 material points!

Recommend doing more puzzles to help you assess threats and look for better/best moves.  Regards!
