reading in this thread is even more fun than normal
Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
We have a saying her in Aus: It's all Greek to me.
Roughly, it meas "may as well be speaking in Borg":
My mother used to tell me not to go to a catholic church service because they don't use English and I wouldn't understand.
Well, one day, I did attend a Catholic church service, and she was right - partly.
Some of the service was in Latin, but the rest was not "greek to me" it was in Czech, and of course, I didn't understand a single word of any of it. But the music was excellent and the service was quite concise, and the church was beautiful, so I enjoyed it immensely.
I can totally understand how confused non-english speaking people can feel in forums here, or even those who don't have a good grasp of English (canadiens, americans, french, and many others).
life is confusing sometimes. as tonydal said: (paraphrased) keep your sense of humor handy, you may need it.
goes for more popcorn.
I was like...how could the "what" thread have 60 new comments.
As for my initial suggestion...I don't see how it helps to have incoherent thread titles/subjects. It deteriorates the quality of the forums, in my opinion. I am not against the OP asking a fellow Egyptian or Arab to help with his translation...or to send a message in his painfully bad English to the staff. I am Arab, I'd more easily understand what he wants if he typed in Arabic than the ten thousand possible things he's asking with his initial sentence...if it can be called that.
Kco...I don't even understand your point. You are generally coherent and if you were not...then yes, I'd recommend you also find a new technique to make yourself clear.
Stats. If one of you were to go to an Egyptian forum...don't you think you'd do a little work to at least create a proper sentence for them to answer?
Sure Araf and if I were to sit with a grandmaster I would do my best to give him a good game but I am sure you can surmise the outcome. Maybe our egyptian friend did attempt to create a "proper sentence" but came up short.
Not really a big deal though.
stats... your GM analogy falls a bit short.
Ret... that's an expression from Shakespeare. Sorry, I wasn't saying you're a lady.
Gunter glieben glauchen globen
sorry I am kinda Def
this kinda of hurt me the most cause is like making a fat joke to a fat person but on the other hand victhestick was just trying to make a joke , don't worry I haven't report it vic.
Well you won stats_man I am sure you will be very proud of yourself to have my account close to get rid of a jerk like me huh well done. I have deleted all of my comments because they are meaningless.
To Afaf you are right what you said there, so you do understand thank you.
This will be my last post on all forums.
edit : I will at the blog from now on. this thread and others is kind of making feel sick.
Kco - don't worry about it man. Everything's good. Tempers flare sometimes - don't take anything personally. No offense was meant by anyone all around. Don't close your account, you'd be missed.
Oh my. Kco...please don't take these things to heart. Appreciate that you have a place in which to enact these little dramas...what is life without a little spice?
I hope you won't leave Chess.com. I don't want to gush like they did on the Babs thread...but I remember you from when I first joined up here...do stay.
I don't remember you kco, or know you for that matter, but I don't want you to leave. I think most people were just trying to be humorous. I truly admire anyone who doesn't speak English as their first language and has the ability to communicate with it. I can only imagine if the site were Spanish and I were trying to make conversation lol. It wouldn't be pretty.
kco,
you could just do what I do daily, (see below) when trying to answer questions in tactics trainer and dealing with people who refuse to actually look into the analysis lines provided before asking the obvious.
<<< my wife has been telling me to go do this, every day for many years now.
( probably, she is quite right to do so, being that I actually think I can play chess.)

I honestly don't know how you guys stay so polite on tactics trainer responses. lol
because, afaf, when one of us slips, and lets a little bit of 'smart-alek' show, the user complains to erik who gets out a big whip and comes after us. haha.
so we do our best to quench the urge to get smart with users, and stay polite with all.
(beatings continue until morale improves, you know. haha.)
When I left my previous job, my resignation letter contained the following...
7. What would you like to be remembered for?
My empathy. Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me. Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny.
kco...I think you were feeling that it was an attack on anyone with poor English or someone who could not perfectly express himself and that I was degrading or making fun. It was not this way at all.
