Any insight would be helpful, thanks :)

Well, for starters 2. d3 is not a high percentage move for white(check Game Explorer).
Right after that you brought your bishop to g2 but it was trapped by the closed center pawn structure.
After that your play on the queenside wasn't too bad in the middlegame.

So you shouldn't play the KIA when black responds with e5, I'm guessing? ^_^

There are no real absolutes in chess.  The only problem here is the center was
closed and so the bishop was out of play while most of the action was on the queenside.
One other option you could have considered was to advance your f-pawn.

ZF is right. 2. d3 is no good- you should always follow e4 with 2. Ke2!

While 2. d3 is not to be recommended, it was hardly the cause of your defeat. After black had closed the centre with 4... d4 - which he probably shouldn't have done at that point - you should carefully consider the potential pawnbreaks in the centre. White has the breaking moves c3 and f4. In this structure f4 would be more potent. Therefore I recommend 5. f4! before the knight goes to f3.

7. Bd2? seems bad - the main function of the bishop in d2 is to block the path of Nb1 into playWink. If you want to develop your queenside then 7. Nbd2 should be preferred. However, I believe the most natural plan is again to go for f4-break. Before that the knight has to be moved from f3. 7. Ne1 might be possible but I prefer the more active 7. Nh4!? From h4 the knight might also later jump to f5. If black then captures Bxf5 white can take back exf5 opening the long diagonal for Bg2.

15. Nd3 should be a clear improvement. In the near future white should also remove the bishop from d2 and play Nbd2. 18. Na3? can be met with the direct 18... Nxa3; 17. Bxa5 Rxa5 18. a4 is a better idea when black probably has the  advantage but the game continues.

I think your biggest mistake in this game was the failure to develop Nb1.

Yes, I like f4 as well.

However, I still think 2. d3 is not solid for white.  If you consult Game Explorer
in 76 games white wins 28.9% of the time, there is a draw 22.4%, and black wins 48.7% of the time.

What I meant to say is that while 2. d3 is not to be recommended there were bigger mistakes in that game.

after bd6 you might think about c3
