It is refreshing, probably because it rarely happens.
Fool's Mate Declined (Seven Times)

I think this is a decent way to teach him opening theory.
Reading your post I assume there where no bad intentions, but playing rated games with guidance, resigning after the first move and sandbagging are not considered to be decent techniques....
Yes, these are all aspects of cheating.
YOU JUST GOT THIS TOPIC LOCKED! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this person declining the fool's mate was interesting. What was the time control? Maybe they never saw the fool's mate (What?) and didn't realize they could.

@ClavierCavalier I think the time control was 30 0, pretty funny that he missed it sevens times with 30 minutes on his hands to think about it

It looks like 9... Ne3 still sets it off. What did white do on turn 9?

Jblafes: good to see the apology and even better to see the community's disappointment in the original misguided actions. Need to keep/get chess.com clean

I must confess I'm a bit suprised at how people have gone on about cheating - clearly JBades6310 was only trying to help his friend and didn't intend to break any rules. It's been pointed out that he could have played unrated games and he appears to have taken that on board.
The aim of his original post was to point out that someone with quite a high rating managed to miss fool's mate several times - and that is quite amusing!!
I could almost understand a newbie to chess making the mistake of providing third-party assistance, but JBades6310 is a fairly high rated and experienced over-the-board player, very familiar with tournament rules. He of all people should have known better. Well, better late than never, I guess.

That doesn't really matter. We take cheating seriously around here, especially since it is after all an element so easily introduced into online play.
However, I must say it's nice to see an OP who apologizes and says that he will play unrated games from now on
...unlike others in the past who have arrogantly argued with those who have brought the matter to their attention.
