Round 1 (of 5) sees Black playing the straight up French against 1.e4 for the first time in about a year. When I researched my opponent, he mostly played the Exchange, and either the Vienna or Bishop's opening against 1...e5. This wound up a Tarrasch, but no the only real problem for Black is figuring out if 24.Kd2 would have worked for White or not. Probably the only real "Curious" move for Black is why did he move backwards on move 30. The point is to answer 31.Rh4 with 31...g5, never allowing that rook to swing to the queenside until yet another pawn is lost.
