Add on 500 points to your blitz??? So I'm 2684 OTB. Hmmm....

Well if you are 1200 on blitz you will play better with more time. Maybe 400 points is more realistic.

Your opponent will also have more time during an OTB game. During a longer game, you will play better moves but so will your opponents. The ratings are adjusted for each time control.

3+0 is actually the most inflated blitz pool, contrary to what ESP suggests. I'd rather be playing against a ton of titled players (who indeed use that pool, for smart reasons) than Stockfishes.

But yeah, you just have to play OTB to know for sure. But I doubt you'd be rated 1200 FIDE/USCF if you're 1200 chess.com. Probably 1000 is a closer estimate.

Nowadays, chess.com ratings are a bit closer to FIDE/USCF than they were in the past, when a master would have trouble breaking 1800 rapid, etc.

Yes you both will have more time and play better, you will both become better at chess, and that will also lead to better blitzgames

Yes, the point is that he doesn't seem to fully understand how the rating system works across different time controls, which is fair enough as he seems quite new to the game.

2q you should play rapid chess especially if you're trying to improve .. no point in rushing your games

there's no point in guessing; the best way to figure it out is to sample people with chess.com and OTB ratings and figure it out.  My opinion based on what I've seen is chess.com daily rating is about 300 points higher than USCF

That can vary hugely though depending on how long people take for their moves. Blitz is a better measure of strength since there is a "finite" time that people can spend for all their moves. Daily chess is anything from 10 seconds to 3 days.

TC: But OTB some people move very fast as well while others think for a long time.  I'm not sure blitz is as good because some OTB players never play speed chess.  I've seen such players get down to five minutes left in a long game and totally panic because they never play that control.  There are also blitz specialists who play blitz-specific openings who would probably be much weaker in longer controls

FIDE OTB is about 400 points less than chess.com so USCF must be about 250 less

So if I'm rated around 2000 FIDE I'm now supposed to have 2400 in chess.com?

I think that it will be a bit difficult for me to get there...

My first OTB game in my FIRST OTB classic fide tour i owned 1800 rated haha infact i played almost perfect game.. But other rounds i got tired, started to miscalculate and lost winning positions. Watch out for first blunder - it's a bad taste but don't let ruien whole game. Forget about it and just play. Always double check every move.. Take rest and enjoy. Eat and sleep well and dont hurry. Some players will try to put you out of ballance/shape with fast play. Also practice some OTB games, 3d pieces and visualization is harder.

But be carefull some low rated opponents play stronger and some really high rated play really bad... now im 1700 and rapid here about the same.. so pretty accurate.. there is a chart chesscom rating comparsion but its 2 y old somewhere..

solskytz: the big difference disappear when you get really high rated.  I think daily to USCF becomes about equal once you reach 2200+

if you want to know your FIDE OTB rating then start to poly OTB FIDE tournaments.

I agree. The only way to know is to actually play in tournaments.

I agree too. A 1200 chess.com is ready to take the plunge into otb-chess. Enjoy the experience! The thrill to play face to face with a tense human, thats exciting. Longchess also gives time to make well thought moves, and if it gets to slow, waiting for the opponent, you can walk around and look at other exciting games. After the game you can analyze with your opponent and learn a lot. In one tournament I got IM -help (IM Johan Sebastian Christiansen)with analyzing. Interesting!

I think 1200 is far from ready to face OTB serious tournamennts.. He will lose every game and will never go in another tournament.

After my lost against an expert he wanted to analyze a bit.. i look at him and i was like.. what are you talking man.. i haven't even consider your calculations.. i mean it was just pointless i was playing move by move. and the guy was calculating 5 moves deep every move haha.

Personally I have played around 25 otb games and my uscf rating is about 100 points below my rapid rating on this site and almost 500 points lower than my daily. Otb is much much better than online chess in my opinion and I find that chess.com is good for practicing new ideas and concepts due to the fact that my rated otb games cost a lot more money and they are more "official" in comparison to internet chess. But then again, what do i know

I agree with you. Otb is what I am rehearsing for and live and daily chess here is my trainingenvironment. I really like the maximum computeranalyze, and it helps me finetuning my game and it shows me ideas  I didnt see during thegame.

Otb is for me inside budget when it is close to my home town, but hotels and far away tournaments I maybe do once a year. I am registered with 127 otb longchessgames.

Me personally , have tendencies of blundering alot in blitzgames and bullet .

Those tendencies are DRAMATICLY reduced when I take my time to see whats going on with all the peices...

My brain isn't hardwired to see all the peices and ideas quickly...

I guess u can call me slow ,like the turtle .
