2700 Puzzle rating

Sort:

Hey Guys. I got today to 2698in puzzles. So any time now I will get to 2700.

Now Im only 1700 rapid. I havent played in a while maybe I could be 1800 and thats a real maybe.. likely not.

So... is it normal to have 1000 points difference between puzzle and Rapid?  I know the answer is yes but whats your score? How nornal is it?

Thanks.

I don't think puzzle rating has any concrete meaning. This system of attributing points, which does not penalize you if you get the first move right and the rest wrong ( and which therefore makes you increase your rating more and more ) is designed to encourage the user to continue solving puzzles, making him believe that he has great calculation skills... Subtle psychology.

As I understand it, solving puzzles is important, you have to solve many of them and with a correct method, but their rating measures little or nothing.

Clearly Chess.com want to encourage players to keep playing which means over-inflating numbers and massaging egos. Best not to attach any real meaning to numbers (though it's very human to want to). I only do puzzles and play bots and it's easy to come away thinking I'm a great player from the numbers when I know for a fact I'm very average.

Puzzle rating is really just it's own thing yet a high puzzle score shows knowledge & learning. Excellent rating. 🙂

Congrats, that's kinda fun (:

Tbh tho, puzzle rating doesn't matter and isn't necessary for anyone, it's really just the puzzles that help you

Also, a lot of players have somehow exploited the code for the puzzles, giving them huge ratings, anyone know how this is aloud?

if you have a diamond (or platinum/gold) membership I'm pretty sure you get unlimited puzzles, which allow you to quickly climb to the 2500s+, so it's not all that special

It's normal in a sense that a lot of players have it. Most players, however, do not.

I guess most players play tactics puzzles in exactly the same way as they play chess. They "think" for a couple of seconds and play a good-looking semi-random move and hope that it works. These guys won't get +1000.

Any player who is willing to calculate and think, +1000 is perfectly doable.

I have 1700 point difference. Puzzle is 2700 and Rapid is 1000.

I have reached 3097 in puzzles when I was only 1600 rapid. Absolutely normal for puzzle rating to be much higher.

Puzzle ratings tend to reflect your tactical skills and ability to find specific moves in isolated positions, while rapid (or any other time control) ratings encompass a wider range of skills, including strategic understanding, positional play and time management.
