Hey ya'll

Since chess.com hasn't hosted a cash prize event for ages, I wanted to offer an opportunity to all, beginners - advanced players to compete for $50 (That's what I've decided now). Given below are a few guidelines for those interested.

* There will be no sandbagging/cheating encouraged.

* Each match will be monitored and visualized carefully before deciding the winner.

* Players will play on par with others equal to their level of play. ie: Beginners will play with beginners and intermediates with other intermediates.

A club will be created to discuss the schedules of the matches.

* An entry fee of $2 is required for participation. (Paypal or Venmo only)

* If you wish to participate, either DM me or comment down below.

These are the only rules I've decided till now. I'll be ensuring fair play between everyone so none will have to be concerned regarding that.

50 is not enough. I got bills to pay.

I think 2 for 50 is a pretty good bargain

what happens if there is an excess? Does it go into the prize fund, or into a certain someone's virtual pocket?

I really don't think there will be an excess. More than 25 people taking interest in this unattainable. However, even if there is a surplus left, it will be added to the fund as you mentioned.

I'm stunned that nobody has a take on this. It's an excellent opportunity. I'm even intending to give certificates to all that partake.

It is very hard to guarantee the integrity of online games, even with mandatory cameras and screen sharing and a proctor.

The ones who advertise gummies all get their accounts closed.

Why aren't chess tournaments structured more like Poker tournaments?

In chess tournaments, I see people paying around $250 sometimes with 100 people and 1st only gets something like $3,000 or 12 times the buy in. That's not alot considering how many people entered. Why not have the prize money be a percentage of the whole prize pool? For example, 1st gets 30%, 2nd 20%, 3rd 15% 4th 10% 5th 5%  rest goes to the Chess organization. Also, I don't think split prizes are good for chess. Why not have decisive rounds so that someone actually wins 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place instead of their being splits all the time? Thoughts?

A.) prizes are already based on a percentaage of entries ( normally 70-85%)

B.) having tiebreakers would take much longer. with classical chess tourements taking ~3 hours per round.
