A General Chess Discussion Thread?

i had this question awhile back, and it never got completely answered, but basically if you have opposite coloured bishops and pawn chains on opposite colours, is it better to have both players have their pawns of their bishops colour, or the opponents? Basically both can attack or neither. Also if you have same colour bishops, should you keep the pawns off that colour to prevent attacks, or put them on that colour to let you defend them with your bishop, and take up crucial space of that colour. Or even if you don’t have a bishop of that colour, is putting them in a spot a bishop could attack good because it will take the bishops space, or when should I do this? Basically how should I move my pawns to counter bishops?
I was in a position today with same colour bishops, most of our pawns, and two rooks. I put all my pawns on light squares to prevent them from attacking them. They ended up winning from a blunder and a misclick in the opening that lost a pawn, (alekhine I already know what you’ll say), anyway, here is the position, was it a good thing I kept their pawns on dark and mine or light or should I have done the opposite?
I am white of course, and this position was black to move. I am wondering about pawns structure vs bishops, not the game itself
In this game I was playing against a bishop and I had a knight, and tried to move my pawns accordingly, and this one seemed fairly obvious and I think I did the right thing? But I do want someone to help me with bishops vs pawns structure if any of you can tell me.
I might sound dumb… but what on earth does gng mean?
My manz Fras just flashed his brights at da car bro. Bro, BRO turn around.

Shut your mouth
hottake: pawns in an open file are worth more than a knight or a bishop in the end game
Hot take I hear? Hmmmmmmmmmmm
I have a new chess format idea- before a match grandmasters get to ban openings just like they ban certain characters in eSports like Brawl Stars and LoL and then they play as usual

That would honestly be interesting, like they would play something other than e4 d4 c4 or nf3….
I don't really see the point of banning certain openings in tournament. There's no such thing as a broken opening, and opening preparation is a big factor in the game. And there's already 960 if you want to get rid of openings so yh

I think it was a more variant idea, not shaming openings, just playing offbeat ones you’ve never tried or studied
😩 patiently awaiting Alekhine's response
