Aborting Games Policy Question

website, then carries to your app.

I disable chat for one specific reason: I play on my iPad and the chat feature interferes with gameplay.

But I’d like to add a caveat here: I play 3 minutes timed games. And I’ve encountered numerous players in timed games who try and use chat to distract and win via time. So a question for you: are these timed games you are aborting? I agree with your practice if you are playing longer and/or no time games, but not if you are playing short 3 min or under. Just my two cents.

@LouStule - yes chat may be disabled in the app. If you need to know how just reply here and I’ll login to the app and find where it was.

Curiosity got the better of me: app menu -> settings -> live chess -> allow chat

Blood and Ashes is both a book, and an album. So, which one are you..??

Sometimes I find myself accidentally auto aborting games. If I send out a seek and it starts taking a while, I go look at stuff online and often miss the notification which briefly appears at the bottom of the screen, especially if I have the sound turned down!

honestly I like playing both colors i only abort if my connection is low or you are just not a challenge.

I disable the chat (in live games) because most of the time people say something, it's an insult. When it's not an insult, it's an useless small talk.

Small talk as you call it is someone being nice. You should try it some time. For all the time I have been on here I think only once some plonker tried to insult me. When he got my reply he resigned.

I do small talk in real life. The way you answered my post just proves my point even more.

I love when someone insults me, I just say nothing until I mate them lol. I think trash talk is a great dynamic to chess. On the other hand I might be the one that trash talks in the beginning, it's just a tactic to throw your opponent off their focus. Chess is a mental game; if you can't handle trash talk during a game you will lose almost every time.

Again, again and again. I've just made a total neutral and generical opinion (not directed towards anybody in particular) and, moments later, 2 people show up with their accusatory opinions. ("You are not nice", "You are a coward"). It just proves my point even more, again.

I've been here for a couple of months and I've only seen people use the chat to be abusive. Most recently the player had spelled an unpleasant word one letter entry at a time to spell some words, hopefully it was just a child having fun. But if the chat is disabled, so be it. I have not done it, but I completely understand someone who doesn't need to be bothered by ignorance. If you miss an occasional "hello" or "good luck", I think you'll survive.

Some of you guys take this waaaaay too seriously.

It happens to me all the time, it's nothing personal.

To be honest, I think both people who automatically block chats and you who aborts games with anyone that does, both need to take it less seriously.

I disable chat automatically because I'm 64 and can't chat and play chess at the same time. Is this a chess site or a chat site????

You should play jellyfish.Looks like you share the same level of intellect.

It's anything you want it to be. At 64 you can't  do both, that's sad. I'm 72 I play mainly 30 min games while watching television and frequently chat or at least say hello or gg etc.

You should try it it might make you a better person.😂

harbi_canoshi

I can assure everyone. I have not verbally abused anybody on this site.

I only abort games against new accounts and other suspicious players. There are consequences: sometimes the Godbot makes an abort a loss. The. I play the nefarious evil ones for a few days to restore the good standing of my account in the Dalek’s estimation.
