Adjust volume

@timotimo: Turning it on or off is not what we mean by adjusting the volume. We want a more fine-grained control, such as a slider, to adjust it so that we can hear it but it doesn't hurt our ears.

i agree-  not only you can't lower it but it also partially mutes the volume of anything else you have paying

If using Chrome you can use this extension to manage each tab's audio level: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/volume-manager/abnhonfioiokelhdappjknfaannlncac

Came here to say I won't be watching any "learn" videos here because they are WAAAY too loud and I'm not fiddling with my system volume just for this site.

There is a simple rule: if sound is important to the function of your website, let users choose an appropriate volume level.

Any update on this?  I know this other chess website thats popular, open source, ends in .org, which can adjust volume.  Its been 3 years for a pretty standard user interface, what gives?

Nope

Wish I hadn't sprang for premium on this site before realizing there's no volume adjustment. I don't want to play without sound but the sound of the pieces moving ends up so loud that I fear it bothers the neighbors. It certainly bothers me by making me THINK about whether or not it's bothering the neighbors.

It's obvious that this site is going downhill. We've been reporting incorrect puzzles for years, and they are still online and my correction suggestions have been ignored. We suggested a volume control 3½ years ago and it's still not there. All that the staff did was to delete references to other sites. As if the existence of other sites could be kept secret. 🙄 The mod "moved this topic to Site Feedback & Suggestions, where it might be seen and considered", but it hasn't been seen and considered. He also suggested to "use the Help --> Make A Suggestion, as that will also log the suggestion with our development team", which I did, and the development team didn't even care to reply. I mean, they could write back something like "Thanks for the suggestion. It's in our to do list, but with low priority, so don't hold your breath." Or if they don't want to implement it, they could tell me, and maybe explain why. But they didn't reply anything at all. Meanwhile they seem so short of staff that they don't even censor the references to other sites anymore.

I suppose they still have got a few developers, but they don't feel responsible for issues like this one, maybe due to a service contract that doesn't allow them to choose their tasks, or due to a lack of a bug tracking system in the first place. I feel pity with paying members such as MidnightRascal and FlyByTim, but you don't need to consider it a waste of money. See, you may have taken the last opportunity to experience a piece of chess history.

Please add this, it's really annoying.. or at least lower the sound to more appropriate levels. No one needs to hear pieces moving this loudly

hOREP

I second this, it shouldn't be difficult to implement.

Xadrezeiro2121

I second this too, it would be a nice addition to the site.

I constantly have to turn my chrome down on volume mixer just to play chess so annoying

Roman_001

4 YEARS have past and chess.com still hasn't responded. It's a simple feature!

@Roman_001: Time and simplicity don't matter when nobody feels responsible.

Haha just searched to try to find a solution to this annoying problem and ended up here. I have the volume on my computer/speakers set up in a way that works for every single I visit EXCEPT chess.com, which is just crazy loud! Unbelievable that it is impossible to fix such a simple problem!

April 26 2022 here- bumping the issue down the road @admin #admin - a toggle quiet mode would work - anything - this thread started in October 2017 - #bug #clickstooloud #upsetsmywife - We all understand that we can turn down the device volume - otherwise can anyone recommend a plugin that will half the sound on a tab? Web desktop / mobile webviews - the app is fine and probably doesn't need the feature - web desktop pls

gevinnn

any workaround guys

AndrewTiberius

Ha I don't think so- I ended up just muting the sound, although there is a chrome extension 'volume master' that allows you to turn down specific tabs, the only problem is you have to set it every time you open the page.  Maybe there is another extension that will save your volume preference, but I haven't found one yet.  I got so excited when I saw the notification to the reply on this thread haha @admin @developers @engineering please help
