I use the Modern Benoni and the Sicilian. I think they are the most aggressive replies for black. As white I want to control, so 1 d4.
Aggressive play
The Modern Benoni and the Sicilian have in common ... Nf6, ... c5 and ... e6. That's because I play the Kan Sicilian by transposition. But the Sicilian prevents d4-d5 because white already has a pawn on e4 and I want the centre to be semi-fluid. The Modern Benoni invites d4-d5 because white has not yet played e4 and this gives black time to prepare against it. The way I play both openings, black tries to expand on the Q-side and also ... f5 is an ever-present possibility. The differences are that in the Modern Benoni, black's KB goes to either g7 or e7, whereas in the Kan Sicilian, it's heading for e7, d6, c5, b4 or even a3. It can create chaos in either opening! Some GMs even played it to g7. Hope that's some help.
Brilliant stuff mate. I´m not quite at that level yet but still trying to comprehend the full scope of the openings I play, and this surely will be really helpful.
King's Indian Defence is too difficult for the likes of me to play well. I'm fine playing against it because I know one line very well. That should be enough, if I understand it better than most KID players I'm likely to face. But to play it as black, I'd have to know the contents of about ten books off by heart.
In the line I play as white, the Classical, the g7 bishop is black's bad bishop and the c8 bishop is black's good bishop. Don't get them confused. If black can swap off the g7 bishop, which is locked behind his pawn chain, then he's fully equalised. If white can swap off black's c8 bishop then he's probably quite a lot better. White attacks on the queen's side and tries to swap pieces off as fast as possible, preferably leaving about two minor pieces on. Then he wins a pawn. Black attacks white on the Kingside and tries to keep pieces on. Simples!
Could anyone in the room that consider himself as an aggressive player suggest a couple of openings/defenses that suit better than others that kind of game?
I know that is more about knowing how and when to attack than the opening itself, but some insight would be welcome.
Cheers.
