I didnt say i want to be serious.. and most of the time i am not serious.

No, you decided that your interpretation of this member's name is insulting and a serious matter. What is more amazing that no longer the group that is purportedly insulted is complaining but someone from another group instead. Sure we can fix the "problem" so there would not be any chance any longer for potential insult. We ask Chess.com to assign each member a random name. I will be qthdyw1 and you can be thfvkpos9. We remove the chat/commenting feature so it is absolutely impossible for anybody to insult someone. We just play chess and all the problems will be fixed.

 Nice idea, be more original.

I see his country. But people immigrate. Didn't you move from Serbia to Canada?

And no-one here finds racism a joke, so don't try and say that they do. But at the same time, you're blowing something that could be harmless out of all proportion.

Actually if two black people use the N word on each other, it IS ok. Because they both know this "stigma" applies equally to each other, no insult is felt. It's like rural residents calling each other "country bumpkin". But let a city guy call a rural resident "country bumpkin" and the pitchfork comes flying out. In whether an insult is an insult, the context is key. (response to post #20)

I guess the same applies to ChingChangChong. By itself, each word is a common surname among the Chinese. But strung together like this, it can be seen as making fun of Chinese names through alliteration.

Teja

That said, it is no great insult. I am Asian, I would let such a thing ride. Otherwise I would be jumpy all the time.

EternalChess

Kk its nice to hear ones opinion..

I will let this drop and next time use the report button rather then the forums.

Comments are fine but i will not come back.

Seriously then, I don't think it's racist.

For one thing, looking at the guys "real" name in his profile suggest he himself is of Asian origin, or at least with some Asian connections.

For a second thing, you can't know for certain it wasn't intended as meaning something else that perhaps means something to them.

For a third thing, no-one apart from you and your friend have complained about it.

For a fourth thing, generally political correctness goes way too far.

For a fifth thing, if you're not being serious, Serbian, then why call out other people for not being serious?

It's currrrr-leaaaarly not Chinese, though.

You know what SerbianChessStar. No one gives a fuck about you or your beliefs. Being offended is SUBJECTIVE. Nothing happens to you when you are offended, you don't wake up the next day with a brain aneurysm or physicsally harmed in any way. That user name is in NO way offensive. Your asian friend is clearly just bitching to bitch. That would be like me getting offended by someone with the user name "BobJamesCarl" I can't be like "wtf h4x lol they user english LOL offensive deleter lol", and If I did, id be getting the same reception as you right now. As of this date my country has illegally invaded foreign nations on false pretenses and are spilling hundrends of thousands of barrels of oil into the ocean a day and the fact that you have the balls to complain about something as petty as this is absolutly infantile.

EternalChess

Chill.

I'm here for the laughs, but you are wrong if you think all offense is subjective.  I can think of numerous instances that would disprove the argument, but I find this site rather cosy, so I won't type them out Wink

stochasm

I strongly disagree. There is no way that someone's offense can be objective, offense is personal and a form of judgement,  and therefore mutually exclusive to objectivity.

Dietmar

By the way, SerbianChessStar, looking at your submitted forum subject:

"An insult to asians!"

is quite an insult in itself. Are you insinuating that people from this region are inferior by denying them the capital "A"?  I think this is a serious offense and ought to be reported. No one should be allowed to poke fun at someone's else expense. I think it would be proper for you to delete this thread and start a new one that is properly capitalized so I can know your motivations are pure.

ModernCalvin

It feels like staff has been pretty lazy about monitoring forums lately. Maybe they're overworked?

Lots of offensive or borderline offensive SNs have been coming through lately. I'm not sure why there isn't a better screening process for this too. I guess if they're going to let names like masturmater through, they're going to let chingchangchong through as well.

ringwraith10

asians don't find it insulting (except for your friend)

my korean friend is called that all the time (drop the chang) and he finds it funny
