I was wondering the same thing as the OP hence finding this thread. I don't currently use the Analysis tab but I do have a board set up at home which I use for the same purpose. I can only do this for one game at time of course (without hassle of re-setting up each game) so may use this going forward.
analysis button in daily game
This feature shouldnt be availabe. Use your mind and imagination. Thats the real chess. If you want to use tools enhancing your gameplay then go play bullets, checkers or other chess-like games.
I completely agree that using it should be considered cheating and i have no idea why you can do it at chess.com
"This is what you should be able to calculate in your head"
Yes. So please, calculate it in your head. Ability to "CALCULATE" variants by moving pieces on the board instead of using your brain should not be allowed.
This is chess. No matter really if its daily, rapid, classic etc.
I also try not to use right button arrows (damn habit).
Use your head.
I have been using analysis but not the opening tab.
Historically in daily chess players would consult books on openings. But these were of course limited. With the openings tab, one has access to far more combinations. That basically eliminates the opening from the game, since one can go fairly deep there, for any legitimate response. But it is what it is and if the opponent is going to be using it so should I.
Of course this problem is basically eliminated by chess960.
