Use this thread to discuss the live coverage of Game 1 of the Anand vs. Topalov match.

Shouldn't it have started by now?

Nytik

That's what I thought, but there has been nothing on the official site, the chessdom.com commentary page, or indeed our resident chess.com TV...

Tricklev

14.00 gmt

It starts in 45minutes.

The other games will start at 12:00 gmt though.

Nytik

No, 14:00 GMT. And now I recognise the confusion. It isn't 14:13 GMT right now, it's 14:13 BST (British Summer Time) !!! Curse us moving the clocks forward.

The game doesn't start for another 45 minutes- 14:00 UTC.

razorblade12

damn BST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nytik

Yeah- it was fine for every other country, because the conversion stays the same. But it is bound to confuse anyone living in the U.K.!! A lot of people don't realise we also change timezones when we move the clocks forward.

ralphsnider

starts midnight here :(

Hungman

sorry but when it starts?

in terms of GMT?

podge52

5 minutes

Anand came out slugging with a Gruenfeld.  Topalov has saced a pawn, but Anand looks safe enough.

The thread on the games is here.

After Topalov's 24. Nxf6, why can't Anand reply 24. ... Qxf6 - is there a problem?

rooperi

Yeah, Knight sac by Topalov! This is gonna be exciting....

rigamagician

I think 23...Kf7 may have been a blunder.  24.Nxf6 Qxf6 25.Rh3 Kg8 26.Rg3 threatening Rxg5 and/or e5 looks deadly.  Anand is toast.

Chessgod123

How about 24.Nxf6 Kxf6. The position looks not too bad for Anand (considering the piece compensation).

rigamagician

24...Kxf6? would lose even faster 25.Rh3 Bd7 26.Rh6+!  The end is near.

Topalov prepared to lose next match

rooperi

Well, it's over: 1-0 Topalov. I'd really like to hear the good players' take on this, seemed pretty devastating to me

It was. Anand got too frisky playing a Grunsfeld in a WC match. Only Kasparov gets away with stuff like that.

Hungman

a few question

why step 24 is Nxf6 when he knows that he will just exchange for a pawn?

why 26.....Kf7 instead of Kg7 when Kg7 can threat the rook away?

the last question, why when i watch in the official site, it said 29.....Qxf5 , and a few mins. afterwards it changed to Qxe4?

reli appreciate if someone will answer my questionsss
