Since this thread is no longer about his chess capabilities:
Anybody who takes Tate seriously is either an incredibly impressionable brainwashable teenager or someone who's actually dumb.
Hes 100% a character. His whole strat is overblowing his ridiculous opinions to a comically stupid degree to drum up controversy then he says some stupid, obvious, astrology level cookie cutter shet and boom, then he hooks a couple insecure boys who think hes a “misunderstood sigma male” or whatever buzzwords these manosphere influencers are using these days, all because he said we should love and protect children in the middle of a twenty minute sexist rant being dumped on an incredibly uncomfortable woman interviewer. Its classic shock-and-awe marketing. shock people and then switcharoo them with something that’ll awe them and hopefully youll get more eyes and followers than youll lose by doing the shocking stuff. Nothing really too special about Tate, hes like a WWE villain, comically arrogant and terrible, but still just a storyline hes trying to sell. If people really hate him, talking about how much they hate him is kinda the whole point of his scam and helping him.

When I first saw a video with him, with his cigar and spitting out nonsense in this weird, over-confident way, I thought it was some kind of Sacha Baron Cohen character, like Ali G. But then, when you look at the comments to his videos, it appears that some kids are genuinely impressed by that.

Anyway, since this is a chess site: I'm sure he's better than the vast majority of 'celebrities', and his father was a legend.

I'm pretty awful at chess myself, my goal was just to defeat my father in chess, and after I achieved that goal I kind of never played chess again. So I'm probably not the best person to tell if he's good at chess or not, but 1600 isn't exactly "genius", better than most players i guess? But definitely not a grandmaster
Ironically, the guy gives "life changing motivational" Advices telling people not to take drugs, (because I've seen videos which were like "ANDREW TATE SAVED MY LIFE", and the guy goes on to say andrew tate asked him to stop taking drugs and hit the gym....), and the guy smokes a cigar in every video? Do they not know nicotine is also a drug?
The reason people believe him so much is probably because of the way he conveys his thoughts I think. I mean he's a full on politician basically, saying things with heavy emphasis on words that make you sound "intelligent". All about public speaking I guess?

Im not much into Andrew Tate's story, but I just watched a video from MoistCritikal commenting on the current situation, and he mentioned he CHARGES for advise - apparently many men pay $50 a month to access Andrew Tate's Discord, where random nobodies will give them advice on how to be a man or be manly or something like that. So, basically, Im certain he sells that image so that he can sell courses on how to be a "top alpha male" to insecure men and take their money.

He's a businessman. He owned a cam-girl business which maid millions by targeting loser men (sorry to say but its true), and now has a paid discord server that "networks intelligent people" and owns courses that cost millions, also targeting insecure loser men, that get advice from men like Andrew tate, and are now worse off than they were before

Sticklight0609

That's why I said: anybody who takes this man seriously for what he says is just giving him money. Hate him or love him, you're money for him as long as you know his name and say his name.

That is pathetic.  I don't use that word often, but...yeah.

Making money off of people's desperately low self esteem is pretty scummy, yeah.

It's pathetic on both ends.

Low self esteem is not really a justifiable reason for paying money to this guy.  You have to be brain dead.

Nah, I don't see it that way. If someone has mental health issues then they'll behave irrationally, that's just by definition.

But sure, if it's some relatively well adjusted non-teen that's paying him money, then that's pathetic.

I've gotten on a police interview kick again... been watching some pretty messed up people confess to some messed up crimes tongue.png

Some people have very strange ways of thinking... and with billions of people out there, it's not too hard to make a small fortune I imagine... provided you have no moral standards that is... and you know, the initial fame and wealth of a kickboxing champion.

It's not just that. I think another big reason for his blowing up is rather complex....A lot of people these days are a lot about "positivity" and create issues out of everything. Adding on to that, there's toxic feminism that a lot of people are pissed off of, and people believe Tate is like some sort of hard working strong smart guy who is bringing back masculinity and also standing up to the toxicity of annoying radical feminists (while bringing toxicity from his side), and they believe he tells the harsh truth (his aggressive tone when he gives "life changing advice")

It's not about behaving irrationally, he has "Stans" that obsess over all of what he says, and then he has "fans" who don't have the attention span of more than 5 seconds, watch his podcast clips on youtube and buy into his crap.
People just buy into his words, that's about it. he's making money man, thats what it's about

Sticklight0609

If I was a lot younger then I'm sure I could've bought into all he says too. I mean you're young, stupid, impressionable, lack a role model or some other crap, and thinks he's hard working because he has muscles and a cool looking microphone.
He's an awful role model and really damaging

Sticklight0609

Made the mistake of watching one of his videos- "How to text women":-

"If a girl texts you, delay your responses, act uninterested. That will give you more power over her."

Then another video where he's like "Reading is for nerds. I am too intelligent to read."

I wish I was making this up but I really ain't

The simple answer is probably true... there are underprivileged, vulnerable males who either feel like they don't have an advocate, or don't have one... and watching emerging support for traditionally oppressed groups is distressing to them... both because they feel overlooked and also out of some vague notion of a zero sum system of support... so much so that when a huckster like Tate comes along they don't care whether he's right or wrong because at least someone is giving them attention. Maybe society will get around to addressing this at some point... because Tate is just one of a handful of ridiculous individuals attracting a horde of vulnerable young males.

llama36

And I mean... there's an argument that anyone who falls for such things is vulnerable by definition... yet look at this topic. It's very much in vouge to attack these young men, calling them pathetic for example.

The other side of the spectrum is toxic feminism, and a lot of these people really don't think for themselves so they just flock to the other toxic side .
Feminism was never about one gender overpowering and dominating the other and justifying it because their past involved them getting oppressed by the other gender. It's very sad to see people who think women cannot be the culprit and its only men at fault, and it's also sad to see men think that all women are like this and toxicity must be met with toxicity

Some of the comments on YouTube I can't tell if they're being serious or not for example

"His arrest made me realise the matrix must be real"
