best way to defend against attack on h7?

by a bishop+queen battery, with the bishop in front and your king already castled... in a lot of games i go over in the art of attack by vukovic, the guy plays h6, but my engine recommends g6,.... which do you guys prefer

i guess the human doesn't like weakening the dark squares and the engine doesn't like getting checked

Either h6 or g6, unless you let white taking on h7.

This question is quite pointless if it's not referring to a specific position.

I simply play h6. What would the disadvantage be of that? A bishop check on h7 is no big deal (unless f7 is attacked). Just move the king to h8. g6 usually leaves some holes on f6 and h6 that a knight or bishop could exploit.

Something eating h6, either for free, or as a sac- usually a bishop from c1.
