Blocking certain flags.

Hi, I'm just trying to have fun here but having to see certain flags displayed next to my opponents' names ruins it. I noticed that Russia and Belarus are banned but for some weird reason, not Israel. Is there an option to manually block or hide specific flags from appearing? Thank you.

No, there's no option like that and unlikely to ever be one

Flags should not be banned, banning some and not others are political decisions and Chess.com isn’t supposed to be about politics.

Interesting that my comment was deleted when I was actually neutral and suggested banning both or neither?

I completely agree with Chess Madam. Banning some flags while allowing others is inherently a political act, and I truly hope Chess.com reconsiders this approach. There’s no country in the world whose flag couldn’t be challenged for some reason or another, so trying to draw a line only creates more division. That said, I would really appreciate it if Chess.com also added the Romani flag as an option—representation matters, and inclusivity should mean more choices, not fewer.

You are NOT allowed to criticize a certain country that has a blue and white flag. Here is your answer on why.

I actually agree. Chess.ckm seems very unfair. They banned the Russia flag meanwhile they don't ban the Israel flag.

Chess.com should grey out every flag, because every country has done something bad. Here you go.

Yeah. I never understood why would we need to grey out flags. They are just symbols. If one is greyed out, every of them should be greyed out.

I think the flags shouldn’t be grayed out because of issues like this. When one flag gets grayed out because that country did something bad, people ask “why not gray out [insert country here], since they also did a bad thing? I think it best to just leave all flags visible to avoid such things.

Besides, this is a chess website. Best to at most just make a statement against whatever bad thing a country did and move on.

chess isn't politics, it's a board game. I doubt any isreali or russian chess players drive tanks and make bombs in their free time (instead of studying endgames).

Yes, none of the chess players are soldiers, especially on top level.

Alright, you Israeli apologist, I’ve seen your pathetic responses all over the forum, not every country is actively committing a genocide against an indigenous population, so. No, not every nation is actively slaughtering people for its flag to be grayed out .. And it’s absurd that we’re even talking about chess players -who don’t drive tanks- while Chess.com bans Sergey Karjakin from prize events just for “supporting” a war. Source:Chess.com on the Invasion of Ukraine :https://www.chess.com/article/view/on-the-invasion-of-ukraine

- Is GM Sergey Karjakin allowed to play on Chess.com events?

“Individuals who support the war are not eligible to participate in prize events.”

Is Karjakin out there driving a damn tank? No. Now, let’s apply that same logic to your precious Israeli chess players. Oh, wait, conscription is mandatory in Israel, so every single one of those players has served in the terrorist organization so-called IDF. So, why aren’t they banned from prize events? Your logic is a steaming pile of garbage, eating itself in a pathetic loop that only proves you’re an idiotic, hypocritical son of a bit.
