Hi all,

I'm always looking for books for my kid to read through and came across this book at our local club. He's closer to intermediate than beginner and has a good understanding of concepts and strategies. Would this be a good book for him? I don't know anything about the level of this book, but wanted to get advice from experts in the matter.

Book:     Chess Traps: Pitfalls And Swindles

Auther:  Fred Reinfeld, I.A. Horowitz

Thanks in advance.

I believe that it uses descriptive (1 P-K4 P-K4) notation.

I've read this book several times hoping to gain knowledge but it was more entertaining and interesting to me. . . .

But i got it for a song. I still have it and never recommended it to any of my students.

Pick some other book . . .

Tactics books are outdated now that engine servers like Tactics Trainer here and Chess Tempo have dozens of thousands of them, and allow customization, including by theme, move number, ECO code, and rating level.

There is a sub forum called something like chess books and equipment. There they have lots of book recommendations and reviews. That's where you should go ask, or initially do a search of the forums and see if someone already discussed this.
