I think you are right the brain needs to be activated and used
there is a difference what you do in chess.
if you focus on learning and remembering openings you activate one side of the brain. the ability to recall.
if you focus on tactics you are working another part of your brain.
the last mentioned is the most vital brain function to use in my view, since it is dealing with working on a problem and solving it.
but it is also important to work on the ability to remember and recall things. in todays society we do not remember anything. we use our notebook to write down things we want to remember. The result is that we cannot recall much. which means the brains isn't used to recall trivia or anything. chess helps working on the ability to recall things.
no coffee :( I wonder how true that is???
yes, iam also a coffee lover to keep me off from sleeping and stay awake for performance but we need to rest and sleep for optimum performance.

natural omega fats derived from salmon and herring are advisable when not cultivated and the fresh ones. antioxidants as blueberries any berries will do. neurons and many neurons die when unuse. the good news is our brain produces also new neurons after its death as replacement according to the book ive read. thanks again for your comment.

i was reading a book last night about the human brain.the author a doctor, which have scanned thousands of brain. he says , our brain does not rest while we are still alive,even in our sleep it continue to function. the full development our brain rest on constant usage of it to its full potential. neorons and many neurons are produced and strenghtened by its full activity. thats the reason maybe why an idle mind does not bring any good, we had to learn amd to learn for something new to keep us alive and exploit its potential . the human brain needs only glucose and oxygen as nourishment aside from rest and exercise , avoid coffee and liquor cigarrettes for its optimum performance. thats the reason maybe i enjoy playing chess i am not not yet achieve my level because its only now i have begin to have serious studies about chess.this is all for now.
