At the intermediate level, I’m pretty sure you have to do more for your Elo to go up. You can take chess lessons, get a coach, etc. I have read chess books and those help. I’m also taking Tuesday lessons so that’s been nice. But a coach helps you find your main problems and fixes them so you can get better.
