Shouldn't you get a trophy or something for this?

What's the name of the movie? I've watched many chess movies (mostly about world champions) but I've never heard about this one.

Queen of Katwe

I read the book twice. I cried like a baby during some parts of the movie. You find it in Netflix. I really recommend it for every chess players. Actually her life was much more difficult than what you can see in the movie. Especially her mother had a horrible time to feed her children.

Shouldn't it be "running for your lives", not "running for your lifes" ?

TROLL ALERT 🚨 🙀

I am not a troll. I am trying to get your attention so you can read the book or watch the movie. I think it can open some eyes for the value of chess. It is great story.

Sounds a bit like a re-write of "Queen's Gambit"(novel by Walter Tevis)

It is based on a true story.

Maybe she has an account here?

Good book. People complain about the fact that she is a weak chess player compared to titled players around the world but that misses the point I think. from what I read she went to study in the usa and no longer plays chess competitively.

The coach saw that some kids were afraid to play in a school against rich kids.

He decided to tell the kids a story. He said a hungry dog tried to catch a cat, but the cat could escape. The coach asked the dog “Why didn’t you get the cat?” The dog: “Coach, I was running to get a meal, but the cat was running for his life”.

The coach told the kids that their opponents come from reach families, everything was easy for them. But you - you are running for your life”.

I love the analogy.

Or let’s say: parable.
