Good to see that photo after all these years. Smile

You can more than likely teach a monkey to do anything..They are very intelligent creatures. Had 2 as pets when i was a kid..

Time4Tea

In a legal sense, I believe they can.

sleepingbeauty

Oh i do too. i was amazed at what they could do when i was a kid...

Maybe we should raise the bar.

Can monkeys play chess WHILE typing out the complete works of Shakespeare?

YEah, don't seem so clever now, do they?

This video reminds me of how condescending humans are about other animals. Humans are always so surprised/impressed when other animals display 'human' qualities.

Qualities like compassion, intelligence or, in the case of the video, a desire to have what ones neighbor has. There is no feeling or action that humans can feel that cannot be felt by other animals.

This type of thinking just goes to show how far most humans have strayed from their connections with nature and the world around them. No doubt this goes far in the lack of hesitation in destroying entire species.

I couldnt agree with you more... we are quite arrogant in that way. Animals are far more intelligent than we know them to be.

The_Ghostess_Lola

I don't think you'd wanna teach a monkey to play. Everytime they made a good move they'd start screeching and jumping up & down and showing their yucky teeth....and maybe even moon u.

sleepingbeauty

yeah but that would make the game much more fun... hahaha

What are you talking about?  Tribalism and the belief that your group is unique / chosen by god / etc is the most natural thing.  Destroying other groups and species is too.  Strayed from their connections?  This exemplifies how animals behave.

We play chess.

You misunderstand me.  If anyone is ignorant it's you who seem to think this isn't a trait all humans have shown.

Americans are also a good example.  From our national anthem:

"O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!"

I think we would have heard about it in Science manuals, if the training with Koko, the sign language gorrilla had progressed to that level. Had her training continued, I'm sure she could of beat me.Cry

It's likely I misunderstood you, I am drunk and not really reading what you are saying

Oh, we're not supposed to do that?

Saw some filthy red neck video on youtube with some idiot in the armed forces talking about how people "over there" have an us vs them mentality.  They're stupid and their religion is violent.  Because of this we're at war, and if you're not for his POV then you're against it, and God bless America, and lets fight them till they're dead.

And people clapped.  Probably not a big crowd but... if I ever needed proof people are closely related to monkeys...
