Congorats, actually there is an "online arena" are within FIDE that online ratings CAN, and do

happen. We have several Fide online GMs in the USA who have ratings of 1800

here is one Edward Duliba, 2485 who is a CGM, Correspondence GM. I believe several years

ago, he won a correspondence (online) FIDE GM Tournament.

Hey,

I was just wondering if you can get national master in uschess as well as the title by reaching a Uschess online rating of 2200 or is it just OTB rating of 2200?

For US Chess. only OTB can give you a title.

Now I was a tournament director for a US Chess National cadet tournament that was online

with TDs at every playing site around the nation. This was rated OTB.

US Chess used to allow that but the new regulations are that OTB ratings can not be impacted by Online play at all.

FIDE does have some online titles; they are basically just a way to make money. But they aren't recognized here and only have very minor benefit for OTB FIDE rated events.

Can an Indian get USCF rating ?

I think these are:

AGM

AFM

ACM

AIM

but these do not matter in otb games.

There are two requirements for getting a US Chess rating:

  • Being a US Chess member (purchasing a membership)
  • Playing in US Chess rated events

Anyone can join US Chess as a member, if they pay the membership fees. Playing events, is the main problem, but with Online rated events, anyone that is a member can do that. For foreign players, that is always and option. Also, US Chess allows foreign affiliates (which is has a yearly affiliate membership), so it's possible for OTB rated chess in other countries as well (as far as I'm aware).

Acturally, hate to dispute you on this Dhruv, but the correct is NO, you cannot. While FIDE

online master titles going up to GM are possible, US chess does not offer any master titles

for online play. Nor are any planned.

what's an NM

Must be a title I guess.

The only NMs who are as low as 2200 biltz or bullet here are NMs who got the title when they were young, and are a lot weaker now.

"Real" NMs are more like 2400-2500 minimum.
