CANNONS!

I play Chinese Chess and in this game, there is a piece called the "cannon" or "catapult" where it moves just like the rook, but captures by jumping over a piece, doesn't matter from whose side or the number of spaces, and capturing the piece that follows.  For example, if a cannon was on b2 (choose a color), a random piece on b4 (any color), and another random piece on b6 (color oposing cannon), the cannon would be able to jump over the b4 piece and capture the piece on b6.  How do you think European Chess (The International Standard of Chess that we can play here) would change if the cannon/catapult were incorporated with the game?

Solution: Make a chess variant.

Normal chess will never change.

What were you smoking planettop

But that would be a cool idea aslo it would be cool if pawns could change direction after they crossed the middle of the field

Google chinese chess. You'll see how the pieces move.

There are only 4 (or 5, I forgot) pawns in chinese chess, so changing direction works there. For 8/8 files in international chess though, changing direction would be insanely chaotic.

Normal chess has changed over the years actually.

Bomalot has a piece (represented by an upturned Rook) called the Tank, that moves like a King but PUSHES any piece it encounters (either color) onto the next square. If the square beyond the "Tanked" piece is also full, its occupant also gets "Tanked" to a new square.

It is possible to Tank pieces right off the edge of the board... which captures them.
