I think carlsen as one of the youngest world champions is not cool..

Fischer was cool cause he made chess famous and a real sport where you can earn millions of $$$ and he defeated the soviet chess machine

Kasparov was cool cause he was fighting for change in his country and he fought well against deep blue

All Carlsen has is he is young and plays like Fischer and Kasparov but he dosent have a memorable story like Fischer and Kasparov

he is just product of the modern world with computers and he dosent have much sadness in his life

This guy totally gets it.

He's cool.

This ties in nicely with an earlier thread regarding how the fall of the soviet union negatively impacted the popularity of chess in the media. We don't have those cold war-era games that were as much about propoganda as they were of the game itself. Fischer accusing the soviets of electronic bugging and sending radio wave "attacks" at him, etc. Made for better drama than modern day reality tv shows (although to me, watching grass grow is more intriguing than watching a show about the Kardashians and who they are divorcing this week)

Carlsen is a "normal" guy. If you see the champions of the past, most have some psychological problems, while today's players not. Today's players are normal people, they are married, they have interest outside chess.

Petrosian had no psychological problems neither did Korchino, Keres. Capablanca was a playboy with no problems as well. The list goes on and on thanks. As far as modern players do your research

What about Steinitz, Rubinstein, Alekhine, Fischer, ecc... Today's top players are normal people.

Capablanca was awesome exactly because he was a playboy with no problems.  He was the unfathomable genius who nobody could touch despite his carefree attitude toward training, study, and discipline, and his predilection for booze, broads, and cigars.

Petrosian was widely regarded as even duller than Magnus during his heyday.  Even the Soviets were embarrassed by him.

The other two guys are irrelevant also-rans.

You don't have to have an interesting life to be an interesting chess player. I find Carlsen boring because his games are simply not all that great, despite the fact that he's a great chess player, not because he was lucky enough to be born as normal as a genius can be.

I would be normal too if I get 100$+ per lesson.(Thankfull to Fischer) So any chess player(serious player) who talk bad about Fischer must have some psychological problems.

We come in times when we are even not sure anymore whats normal and what is not.Thats the question.

It's not hard to find negative things about Fischer. In fact it's hard for fans to inore them. I think that Fischer was mentally unstable and therefore cannot be blamed for his actions or anti-semitism.

Actually he plays nothing like Fischer or Kasparov.  Completely different styles.

If, however, you are saying his level of play is on par with theirs.  He has a long way to go before you can start saying that.

I disagree. Their playing styles are completely different but Carlsen can match both Fishcer and Kasparov.
