It took me years to learn how to proper checkmate with a queen because I was already using the rook and king tehnique.

I do, but it's actually harder for me with queen. I feel like getting a draw is a lot easier with a queen than with a rook.
For me, I always had a hard time with the rook.

Hi, I have problems with learning how to checkmate with just a queen and a king left. Typically, my opponents are bad sports and don't resign when they just have a king left, hoping for a draw. It frustrates me to great degrees, especially if a draw does happen even though I'm up +12. If any one could help me with finding the best way to checkmate with a queen and king, I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks

Maybe it's a translational issue; perhaps English isn't your first language. But the way you wrote it was as if you were condescending Cecilia, aghast at the thought that she might struggle with a rook. I was simply reminding you that different people struggle with different things; there's probably a few things that were very easy for Cecilia but not so easy for you. It's just how things are.

Worst possible advice. Beginners usually finish up stalemating and practically all stalemates have the queen a knight's move away from the opponent's king.

When the king goes to the back rank a1,or a8 file
You need to cut it off with a move like queen a2 or something similar so you follow the king until you can cut it off in a backrank
